Position Overview:
Technician II (4-6 years of experience) next transition from Technician III. This position is responsible for assisting in the diagnosis, removal, or replacement of major components with little or no supervision. Expectations include the ability to diagnose and repair the following: Clutches, Power Take Offs Systems, Electric Systems, Hydraulic/Air Brake Systems, Heating/Air Conditioning Systems, Instruments and Gauges, and Preventive Maintenance Service. Work involves ability to follow directions and maintain records on all maintenance and repair work performed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

- Provide technical service to vehicles and equipment.
- Perform general and detailed repair of all trucks, engines and components.
- Overhaul gas or diesel engines.
- Read job order, observe and listen to vehicle in operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures.
- Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and make adjustments as needed.
- Tag all warranty parts and returns to warranty clerk.
- Attend training classes and keep abreast of factory technical bulletins.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers to increase overall customer satisfaction.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues.
- Inspect, lubricate, and service diesel engines and equipment.
- Check, fill, and/or change appropriate fluids and filters for all diesel engines.
- Inspect and or repair support systems, such as electrical, air, and brake systems.
- Ensure all safety devices on diesel engines are in good working order.
- Assist less experienced technicians with repairs, maintenance assignments and adjustments.
- Perform routine housekeeping duties related tools, materials, shop and work areas.
- May assist in other areas of the maintenance shop as needed.
- Maintain accurate records (time, repair orders and parts usage) on computer.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Must possess a valid Driver License and clean driving record.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Must be able to read, write and understand service instructions.
- Good mechanical aptitude of vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Minimum 3-5 years performing repair and maintenance on heavy trucks and diesel engine vehicles, equipment and related components.
- Experience using repair manuals, wiring (electrical) diagrams and schematics necessary to troubleshoot or repair vehicle or component failure.
- Ability to safely drive service vehicles and vehicles in and out of service area, as well as test drive.
- In depth knowledge of truck components and systems.
- Electrical skills required.
- Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department or line of business.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Certified Associate in Applied Sciences or equivalent technical training in Diesel Technology.
- Minimum 3-5 years performing repair and maintenance on heavy trucks and diesel engines.
- Strong technical/mechanical skills and experience required.
- Computer skills including email, maintenance programs, and diagnostic systems.
- Experience in engine rebuilding required.
- Experience in G2 systems.
- Certified in Series 60 and DD engine platforms; EPA 608, 609

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate with customers and must be able to exchange accurate information. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 70 pounds. Must be able to detect parts and machinery from a distance and up close.
