Position: Collector I
What You'll Do: Under supervision, the Collector I will manage assigned accounts from the point of billing until the account is paid or referred to an outside agency. Must interact effectively with internal and external customers. Must be able to comprehend and follow policies and procedures. Must present a professional image of the Business Office at all times.
- Consistently maintains the targeted level of days receivable for assigned accounts.
- Monitors account efficiently, concentrates collections efforts on high dollar accounts, and refers non-collectible accounts to agencies within prescribed time frames.
- Research accounts to resolve disputes or questions; document and follow-up on assigned accounts in a timely and complete manner.
- Interact effectively with patients and guarantors. Responds timely to patient inquiries; resolves account problems satisfactorily.
- Initiates bad debt write-offs for non-collective accounts and forwards to leadership for approval.
- Accurately maintains individual procedure manuals for specific areas of responsibility.
- Review accounts to ensure payments and adjustments are posted correctly.
- Demonstrates knowledge of DRG/Per Diem/Contract reimbursement.
- Knowledge of authorization and reimbursement regulations.
- Understand the difference between an ROI and a denial.
- Refers denied accounts timely to the “denials team” according to policy.
- Explain financial and hospital policies and procedures to patients' satisfaction and understanding.
- Research accounts to resolve disputes or questions.
- Researches aged and no-activity accounts utilizing hospital reports.
- Performs collection activity, including mailing letters, statements.
- Maintains a high degree of accuracy in all areas of responsibility. Audit accounts for the accuracy of information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For:
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in a healthcare environment is highly desired.
- Displays good communication skills, both verbal and written when dealing with all customers.
- Demonstrates knowledge and the ability to utilize CPT/ICD-10 and UB-04 reference material.
- Knowledge of CWF, POS device, Internet, payer web-sites and Electronic billing systems.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
LICENSURES/CERTIFICATION:
- Required to obtain and maintain LA City Fire Card certification within the first 30 days of employment.
