Valley View School is a therapeutic boarding school for boys ages 10-15, dedicated to helping students build emotional resilience, develop life skills, and achieve personal growth in a structured, supportive environment. Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced childcare worker to join our team and play a key role in fostering a safe, therapeutic, and engaging environment for our students. As a residential counselor, you will be responsible for working with the Residential Director to assist in the day-to-day residential life of our students, ensuring that the boys' experiences outside of the classroom contribute to their overall well-being and therapeutic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule: This position requires nights and weekends (hours are 3 pm- 11 pm, and some weekends)
- Supervision: Work alongside the residential staff to ensure students are receiving consistent care, support, and guidance in line with therapeutic and educational objectives.
- Planning: creating and participating in fun and engaging activities with our students.
- Student Support: Build positive, trusting relationships with students, helping them develop life skills, manage emotional challenges, and foster independence.
- Program Implementation: Assist in planning and facilitating structured daily activities, including recreation, chores, bedtime routine, and group activities that promote personal growth.
- Communication: Act as a liaison between residential staff, clinicians, and educational teams to ensure integrated care for each student.
- Safety & Structure: Ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe, organized, and therapeutic manner, maintaining boundaries and expectations within the residential community.
- Crisis Management: Provide immediate support during emotional or behavioral crises, guiding staff and students through de-escalation techniques and interventions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, education, or a related field (preferred but not required).
- Experience working with youth in a therapeutic or residential setting, ideally in a supervisory role.
- Strong leadership skills, with aspirations for leadership opportunities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
- Crisis management skills and the ability to stay calm and focused if situation were to escalate.
- Commitments to helping young people grow emotionally, socially, and academically.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
