Valley View's Cardiac Cath Lab is seeking a qualified, experienced Perfusionist.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
Under the general supervision of the Director, operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during medical procedures requiring support or temporary replacement of patient’s circulatory or respiratory functions. Prepares and administers blood products and prescription solutions through bypass circuitry.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates competence in the daily operation of extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or temporarily replace a patient's circulatory or respiratory functions.
- Reviews patient medical history and chart and consults with surgeon or physician to obtain patient information needed to set up extracorporeal circulation equipment.
- Responsible for the selection of appropriate equipment and techniques to be used and to ensure the safe management of physiologic functions.
- Demonstrates competence in the practice of perfusion through an understanding of necessary variables: arterial blood gases, hemoglobin level, venous saturation, cardiac index or output, electrolytes, temperature, and urinary output.
- Operates extracorporeal circulation equipment to regulate blood circulation and composition, to administer drugs and anesthetic agents, and to control body temperature during surgery or respiratory failure of patient.
- In collaboration with the Medical Director and Cath Lab Director, ensures that all applicable regulatory and legal standards and policies are met within the scope of perfusion services. Ensures appropriate internal and external reporting of both compliance and non-compliance issues arising from surgical scheduling.
- Must adhere to standard precautions policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Perfusion Technology. Master’s preferred.
- Completion of a Perfusion Education Program, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
- Must have a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) credential from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. (ABCP).
- ABCP Certification must be renewed annually.
- Possess current BLS and ACLS Certification (American Heart Association)
Skills:
- Effectively operate, monitor and troubleshoot equipment and processes.
- Ability to develop and implement effective solutions, including during critical, stressful situations.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to effectively build and manage interpersonal relationships.
- Demonstrate comfort and facility in working within an operating room setting. Use proper sterile technique and appropriate PPE. Work safely and ensure the safety of patients and others.
