Essential Functions of the Peer Facilitator:
- Assist a Life Skills Instructor (LSI) in planning, organizing, developing, and facilitating group activities for the 15-week Fall and Spring class sessions.
- Develop positive relationships with students in the program while maintaining clear boundaries.
- Build a sense of community for program youth, and help other youth to create meaningful lives in the community.
- Lead open discussions and workshops on various subjects related to active listening, conflict resolution, and civil discourse.
- Must be able to work 20-30 hours per week Monday through Friday.
- Peer Facilitators will work until 7 pm a minimum of 3 evenings a week due to the after-school class schedule.
- Arrive at school locations before class start time and prepare class materials before student arrival.
Minimal Qualifications for the Peer Facilitator:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Shall be a mature individual who has successfully graduated from the SBLS program or has successfully participated in other Valley Youth House programming in York County.
- A valid driver’s license, a motor vehicle report that meets agency requirements, and reliable transportation that can safely transport clients if needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience facilitating a curriculum based program.
- Knowledge of the York County school system, student life, and York County resources and service providers.
- An understanding of the barriers and challenges that students face including reasons for truancy, lack of self-esteem, parent child conflict, etc.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English is a plus.
