Intensive
Care Tech: The Intensive Care Technician (ICT) is an unlicensed
multi-skilled worker who supports patient care by performing specific nursing
tasks and support functions as delegated by a licensed provider. Care provided
by the ICT is supervised by a Registered Nurse. Phlebotomy is provided by the
ICT under the supervision of the Department of Laboratory. Upon approval from
the Director of Pharmacy, ICTs are authorized to access medication storage
areas for the purpose of stocking and monitoring supplies and equipment that
may be housed in the storage area, as well as stocking intravenous fluids and
irrigation solutions.
Intensive Care Tech Trainee: The Intensive Care
Technician Trainee is an unlicensed multi-skilled worker who supports patient
care by performing specific nursing tasks and support functions as delegated by
a licensed provider. Care provided by the ICT Trainee is supervised by a State
Certified ICT and/or a Registered Nurse.
The ICT Trainee must
complete the 120-hour VCH Phlebotomy Training program within 6 weeks of their
hire date. The ICT Trainee must pass the national phlebotomy test
and apply for their state phlebotomy certificate within 6 months of hire. Upon
receipt of their state phlebotomy certificate, the ICT Trainee will be eligible
for promotion to the ICT position.
