What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director of ValleyStar RISE Foundation position at ValleyStar Credit Union?
As the charitable arm of ValleyStar Credit Union, the ValleyStar RISE Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Foundation is dedicated to supporting organizations within the credit union’s field of membership that fill voids for individuals in the following areas: • Financial well-being with a focus on entrepreneurship. • Physical and emotional health. It cultivates financial support from events, corporate sponsors, individual donors, and grants to provide the funding needed to fulfill its mission.
The Executive Director reports to the ValleyStar RISE Foundation’s Board of Directors. This leader will lead, plan, and execute internal and external fundraising strategies and donor activities for the Foundation. They will serve as the Foundation’s chief fundraiser and will be responsible for cultivating donors to diversify revenue streams to fulfill the RISE Foundation’s mission and strategic plan. The Executive Director is charged with the Foundation’s overall growth and expansion to further advance its philanthropic reach and ensure its long-term sustainability.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Fundraising (60%):
- Work closely the Board of Directors to function primarily as the chief fundraiser by identifying, cultivating, and stewarding key stakeholders within ValleyStar Credit Union’s field of membership that support the Foundation’s mission.
- Engage the Board of Directors in the fundraising process by regularly involving them in fundraising initiatives including identifying potential donors and planning events and other activities to cultivate relationships.
- Ensure fundraising activities, which include community events, grant making and donor cultivation, align with the Foundation’s mission, values, and goals.
Program Development (25%):
- Develop the Foundation’s mission, vision, and values to affirm a case for support to effectively communicate to others.
- Partner with ValleyStar’s Executive Team to build an internal culture of philanthropy through education about the Foundation’s role and its value to the Credit Union.
- Engage with the Foundation Board to develop a comprehensive strategic plan for the Foundation with concrete metrics and financial goals as well as communication and donor stewardship plan.
- Consistently evaluate the consistency, quality, accountability, and performance metrics of the Foundation.
- Build and monitor the budget, which includes donations and expenditures, and working closely with the Foundation’s Treasurer to manage the Foundation’s financials.
- Build reports to measure the impact of each charitable donation made to a non-profit partner as well as community event, which includes income and expenses, attendance, and access to new constituents.
- Oversee the development of policies and processes to govern fundraising.
- Oversee the granting of funds to other organizations and requesting entities. Research potential non-profit partners and their initiatives that best align with the goals and mission of the RISE Foundation.
Marketing and Communications (15%)
- Promote the Foundation as a community asset worthy of philanthropic support using marketing communications.
- Raise awareness and support of the foundation with our partners and their employees, including ValleyStar Credit Union
- Develop content for digital platforms: valleystar.org landing page, email, and social media campaigns
- Develop positive donor experiences, however, whenever, and wherever donations are made.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: 10 years of leadership experience in major-gift fundraising, community engagement and/or corporate relations.
- Leadership experience.
- Demonstrated ability to build deep, productive relationships to solicit and close major gifts as well as strongly influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to enhance community engagement and strengthen the visibility, purpose, and case for support of the Foundation in existing and potential markets.
- Demonstrated experience with grantmaking activities.
- Highly competent in strategic and multi-year planning.
- Demonstrated ability to manage non-profit financials.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication/presentation skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel on a regular basis
