What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vessel Agent position at Valls Shipping?
Vessel Agent will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities for vessels while in port, including boarding vessels on arrival, departure and any other time deemed necessary. This also includes all necessary arrangements and coordination prior to the vessel’s arrival and after the vessel’s departure to affect a smooth and efficient turnaround.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and update all parties concerned, of all movements or changes of vessel position prior to, and during vessel’s port stay and arrival/departure.
- Work with vessel Owners, Charterers, terminal operators, stevedores, port authorities, government officials and other parties to ensure safe and efficient practices and methods.
- Arrange all Port services necessary for vessel operation, exercising discretionary judgment to contract with local vendors as appropriate.
- Responsible for communications between owners/operators and charterers of vessel.
- Maintain communication with Federal authorities, local pilots, terminal operators, towboat companies, port authorities, stevedores, etc., in order to ensure a smooth and safe operation during a vessel call.
- Act as a liaison between the Ship Captain/crew with parties mentioned above.
- Maintaining of vessel files according to company guidelines.
- Prepare various forms and documents required by Federal authorities.
- Prepare cargo documentation.
- Keep track of services ordered.
- Respond to routine communications.
- Coordinate crew changes as requested by our customers to include transportation arrangements and immigration clearance.
Job Requirements:
- Must be able to obtain or already possess a TWIC card.
- Must be willing to work/travel within the Houston, Galveston, and Freeport area with occasional travel to Beaumont and Lake Charles Areas.
- Must be able to interact with clients and vendors in a professional manner
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and operate within a deadline oriented environment
- Ability to operate in a team environment
- Basic computer knowledge, especially with Microsoft Office Products
- Excellent organizational skills
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Position requires using personal vehicle for company business
- Be willing to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required
- Have strong communications skills (verbal & written)
- Hybrid work from home / office available once training is complete
