Working Conditions
The employee is continually exposed to a working environment consisting of smoke and irritating particulate impurities, acid fumes from pickling tanks, and large quantities of windblown dust and ash produced as by-product to the process. In addition, the nature of the industry results in extreme heat in the summer (typically 10-15 degrees above outdoor temperature) and melting snow off of incoming material results in damp, cold working conditions in the winter. The winter conditions are doubly hard to manage. The average employee dresses to be comfortable while doing his / her assigned task, and in doing so, subjects him / herself to chilling and cold as large fluctuations in temperature are brought about by the moving of material in and out of the facility.
Hazards
The galvanizing industry is a heavy, demanding industry that is plagued by many hazards; however, this job description assumes that many of these hazards are avoidable if properly managed by close supervision and skilled employees. Some hazards are, include: hypersensitive reaction to chemical environment, heat exhaustion or aggravations created by blowing dust and ash. In addition, constant exposure to such hazards as burns, cuts, contusions of various degrees and eye injuries make the possibility for incidents high even under the best conditions.

Essential Functions
- Monitor crews to ensure safe working habits and high-quality finished products
- Display a high degree of personal efficiency in achieving employee, department, and company goals
- Operate the crane in a safe and effective manner in the absence of the crane operator
- Ensure accurate piece counts, part identification, and labor input
- Monitor and record the quantity of work completed by crew on inventory control tally sheet
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- One year of previous experience in a galvanizing environment
- The ability to perform basic math functions such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing
- Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
- The ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment
- The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
- Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
- One year of previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
- One year of previous experience with overhead crane operations
- One year of previous experience operating a forklift
- One year of previous experience in a supervisory or management position
- The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues
- The ability to recognize hazardous substances and to know basic employee responsibilities for chemical safety
