What are the responsibilities and job description for the High Voltage Electrician position at Valmont Industries, Inc.?
A Brief Summary of This Position
The incumbent will perform tasks and duties involving high voltage electricity functions, including solid dielectric autonomous 13.8KV high voltage distribution switchgear, utilizing HMI (Human Machine Interface) to optimize electrical grid performance. The incumbent will provide troubleshooting and repairs or maintenance on various electrical equipment, including but not limited to HVAC equipment, elevators, sewer lift stations etc.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide troubleshooting and repair on air compressor electrical components and HVAC equipment
- Provide troubleshooting and repair of electric components on elevators
- Provide troubleshooting and repair electrical components on sewer lift stations
- Assist with testing and troubleshooting of infrared thermography inspections
- Communicate and coordinate with OPPD personnel regarding power feeds or interruptions
- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on 13.8 KV high voltage distribution systems
- Assist in construction and provide support with underground 13.8 KV high voltage distribution system
- Analyze malfunctions of primary high voltage electrical equipment at substations and transformers
- Repair and maintain high voltage lines including removal of fuses, links and buss connections
- Recommend measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance
- Provide training and operation of HMI (Human to Machine Interfacing) electrical equipment
- Certified training and applied techniques for underground utility locates including electrical, natural gas, compressed air, fire protection and domestic water lines
- Understand electrical drawings, circuit diagrams and electronic schematics Operate industrial equipment ie: forklift, boom trucks, hoist, etc.
- Support in-house electrical projects and capital projects
- Prepare estimates for labor and material for in-house projects
- Perform housekeeping duties in shop and at work-site
- Record labor, repairs made, downtime and use of materials
- On call availability required for majority of days/nights
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:
- Associates Degree in Electro Mechanical or Maintenance
- 5 years of experience
- Experience with 3 phase (480v)
- Knowledge of 13.8kV high voltage power
- Experience operating forklifts, boom trucks/hoist/aerial lifts
- Ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisor, and all other shop departments regarding the maintenance and repair of equipment via notes, verbal communication.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
- Ability to identify and report equipment abnormalities and safety hazards
- Maintain test equipment
- Knowledge of solar photovoltaic principles and systems
- Knowledge of principles of energy storage (batteries) in both utility or large industrial facilities.
- Journeyman electric license or electrical professional certification
