OUR OPPORTUNITY:
Position Overview: Valor Contracting is looking for a motivated and experienced individual to take the lead on the daily operations of our shop. This role combines the leadership of a Shop Manager with the hands-on skills of a mechanic, focusing on ensuring our construction team stays on track through effective equipment management, maintenance, and logistics.
Job Summary: The Shop Manager/Mechanic will oversee shop and yard personnel, perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment, manage inventory, and provide site support. You'll work closely with crew leaders and project managers to make sure all equipment is in top shape and ready for use. The ideal candidate will have a background in automotive or diesel mechanics, excellent organizational skills, the ability to move equipment and trailers when needed, and a strong expertise in troubleshooting and repairing equipment both in the shop and in the field.
Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and Coordinate: Lead and support shop and yard personnel, helping with equipment repairs and ensuring the shop operates smoothly.

Inspection and Maintenance: Perform regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of equipment, including construction machinery, small engines, crew trucks, and other vehicles, both in the shop and on job sites.

Schedule and Prioritize Work: Manage the maintenance schedule, prioritize urgent repairs, and work with external repair shops when larger jobs are needed.

Equipment Management: Take full responsibility for coordinating the logistics of moving equipment to and from various sites, tracking its status, and ensuring timely delivery and retrieval. Monitor and document all equipment movements to maintain accurate records and optimize site operations.

Field Repairs: Use the service truck to perform on-site diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on construction equipment, vehicles, and machinery. Address mechanical failures in the field to minimize downtime for crews.

Inventory Control: Keep track of parts, supplies, and tools to ensure our field crews have everything they need to get the job done.

Safety Compliance: Follow and enforce safety regulations, ensuring that all procedures are in place to maintain a safe work environment.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and equipment usage, ensuring proper documentation for billing purposes.

Organization: Assist with organizing materials in the warehouse and on job sites to ensure efficient workflow.

Cleanliness: Keep the work environment clean and organized, both in the warehouse and at job sites.

Site Support: Provide on-site support to construction teams as needed, helping to troubleshoot and repair equipment to keep productivity high.

Collaboration and Communication: Communicate regularly with Superintendents, Project Managers, and field staff to make sure equipment and inventory are available when needed.

Support and Training: Mentor and train junior mechanics or field staff, helping them learn about equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.
Qualifications:

Experience as a Shop Manager, Mechanic, or in a similar role.

High school diploma or equivalent (technical degree or certification in diesel mechanics, automotive technology, or a related field is preferred).

Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, along with maintenance experience for small engines and construction equipment.

Proficient in using diagnostic tools and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, both in the shop and in the field.

Ability to read and understand technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.

Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Comfortable using Microsoft Office and inventory management software.

Welding experience is a plus.

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL and forklift/MEWP certifications are a plus).

Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.

Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physical tasks as required.
