Responsibilities
- Plan and lead captivating Storytime sessions multiple times per week, incorporating music, rhymes, movement, costumes, and interactive storytelling to spark children’s interest.
- Develop themed Storytime activities that integrate educational topics—such as seasons, animals, or the community—into fun and engaging presentations.
- Create a welcoming, inclusive environment that promotes participation, imagination, and sensory play.
- Design and implement age-appropriate science programs featuring hands-on experiments that introduce basic scientific concepts in a fun and accessible way.
- Adapt activities to suit various learning needs and maintain a safe, organized setting for exploration.
- Manage materials and equipment needed for STEMM, science-based programs, and activities.
- Coordinate and lead themed events that combine Storytime, music, and science, encouraging creative learning through play.
- Embrace character roles by dressing up to enhance the storytelling experience.
- Organize seasonal and special events to keep children engaged and excited to return.
- Maintain the library’s collections, ensuring materials are current, appealing, and well-organized.
- Create and update bulletin boards and book displays in designated areas to promote featured themes, events, or seasonal topics.
- Perform Library Clerk duties as needed, including assisting patrons, checking materials in and out, and addressing general inquiries.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless program execution and a high-quality experience for families.
- Attend cooperative meetings related to the Summer Reading Program and share relevant updates with the Library Director.
- Seek clarification from the Library Director when necessary and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage children of varying learning styles.
- Creative thinking to develop fun, educational, and interactive program content.
- Comfortable leading large groups and using dramatic, musical, or performance-based techniques to captivate children’s attention.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to plan and execute multiple programs effectively.
- Ability to learn and follow general library rules, regulations, and cooperative system procedures.
- Familiarity with general clerical methods and library-related practices.
- Proficient in performing library circulation duties, including using the library cooperative system.
- Basic math skills to compute simple calculations for printing, copying, and faxing fees.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff and the public, maintaining professionalism and composure in busy or high-pressure situations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods and work in tight spaces using various computer equipment.
- Ability to bend, reach, lift, and carry library materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
- Capability to stand, walk, and actively engage with children for extended periods during programs and events.
- Comfortable performing in front of children.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- A degree in Education, Early Childhood Development, Music, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
- Previous experience working with children, especially in group settings, is required.
- Experience in storytelling, music, or drama—particularly singing or playing an instrument—is highly desirable.
- Experience creating and managing science-based activities for children is preferred.
