Qualifications:
- Possess a valid Indiana Health Occupations Teaching license or qualify for the appropriate Workplace Specialist License or Occupational Specialist License
- Possess an unencumbered Registered Nurse License with at least 5 years full time employment experience in the healthcare field
- Enthusiasm for Career and Technical Education
- Outstanding communication skills
- Experience assisting students to make viable, realistic career decisions.
- Professional organizational skills
- Have verifiable work experience outside of education
- Have the ability to develop curriculum and lessons based upon the skills required in the healthcare industry that employers are demanding
- Have the ability to develop partnerships with area health care services
- Interest in sponsoring/coaching extra-curricular activities preferred
- Have verifiable work experience in long term healthcare preferred
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Job Goal:
- To carry out the aims and objectives of the Porter County Career and Technical Education curriculum for entry level employment in health care or for post-secondary study
- To instruct students in individual, small group, and large group settings for the success of all students
- To continue the expectation of excellence, not only of the Valparaiso Community Schools, but of the Porter County Career by promoting growth of the programming offered to students, and fostering the development of the whole child
Essential Duties and Expectations:
- Provide instruction in all aspects of the healthcare industry.
- Assist students in enhancing their skills in the areas necessary to seek employment in the healthcare field.
- Integrate the instruction of basic skills into the curriculum, as well as, teach employability skills such as working with others, good attendance, and a positive work ethic.
- Supervise student clinical rotations.
- Assist students to be successful in school by monitoring their technical, basic skills, and achievement.
- Assist students in developing their career education plans, and instruct students in resume writing and interview skills.
- Organize and take responsibility for an effective program advisory committee.
- Develop and implement a curriculum within guidelines of the State Department of Education, and Porter County Career and Technical Education System.
- Establish relationships with area employers.
- Maintain current license status and perform the necessary continuing education required to maintain and upgrade licensure.
- Participate in Dual Credit partnerships with post secondary education
- Represent the Career and Technical Education program with a high degree of professionalism.
- Direct the instruction of assigned students.
- Perform all regular and customary duties of a classroom teacher, maintain student discipline, perform required record keeping, inventory equipment and supplies, and perform student attendance keeping responsibilities.
- Assist in the performance of all standard and related tasks of corporation teachers.
- Assist in the maintenance of all necessary paperwork and records for the class.
- Maintain communication with teaching colleagues and the Career and Technical Education Department.
- Effectively communicate with students, parents, media, administrators and other groups within the community
- Work in collaboration with other teachers, across all disciplines, to enhance the learning experience for all students
- Create partnerships and participate with Career and Technical Student Organizations Present and assess Skills Attainment
- Organizational skills knowing how to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Computer skills working with Microsoft word, Excel and Google Docs
- Develop list for supplies and equipment needed to start a Skills Program
- Work with State providers to obtain Workplace Specialist Teaching License
- Be willing to attend state and national conferences for Professional Development
- Maintain high standards as a role model, both in and out of the classroom, while advocating the skills, mission and objectives of the school and district
- Utilize research-based instructional strategies for both face-to-face and digital learning opportunities for students
- Promote good citizenship, be understanding and fair, and display a character of integrity
- Demonstrate necessary organizational and leadership skills
- Perform other duties as directed by the administration.
