Job Description 

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Aerospace Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and testing advanced aerospace systems and components. You will be instrumental in planning and executing aerodynamic analyses and tests for high-speed state-of-the-art hypersonic air-breathing propulsion systems. This position requires a strong background in aerospace engineering principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.


Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Develop and execute complex CFD simulations to analyze the aerodynamic performance of high-speed hypersonic system components, including airframes, fins, control surfaces, and inlet nozzles  
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance design and infrastructure, improving product reliability and yield optimization
  • Support propulsion systems development by addressing challenges and devising effective solutions
  • Design, analyze, and test vehicle aerodynamics at various development stages
  • Utilize insights from component and vehicle test data to enhance analytical predictions and modeling accuracy
  • Support the development (design, analyze, build, and test) of propulsion engines, fluid components (i.e., valves, instrumentation, tank pressures/pressure vessels, and/or fluid systems for VALT systems and subsystems
  • Develop advanced aerodynamic models for diverse hypersonic vehicle configurations
  • Model vehicle dynamics and conducting simulations in Simulink/RockSim
  • Conduct research initiatives encompassing the development of guidance and control algorithms, as well as the exploration of flight control techniques and advanced actuators
  • Generate landing dispersion analyses through Monte Carlo uncertainty simulations, providing comprehensive insights into landing performance under varying conditions
  • Mentor junior engineers, aiding their professional growth and development
  • Conduct thorough investigations into structural or component failures, accidents, or incidents, documenting findings and crafting actionable recommendations for corrective measures
  • Collaborate with team members to verify design efficiency and functionality
  • Streamline the documentation process for aero design, analysis, and test data results, ensuring effective communication to all team members
  • Provide constructive feedback and praise to support team growth
  • Support, promote, and demonstrate VALT’s core values

 

Qualifications:  

 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in aerospace engineering or a related field (preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Aerospace engineering
  • Proficient in aerodynamics analysis to assess and optimize both new and existing concepts
  • Skilled in employing cutting-edge, physics-driven aerodynamics analysis and design techniques
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional, highly collaborative manufacturing team to advance our unique suborbital and orbital launch systems
  • Proficient in evaluating vertical aircraft performance through aerodynamics engineering, utilizing a combination of analysis, testing, and hybrid approaches
  • Experienced in rocket motor and high-speed air-breathing engine research and development (R&D) is highly desirable
  • Strong leadership abilities, adept at collaborating within an aggressive, multi-disciplinary team, and embodying a "failure is not an option" mindset
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, coupled with strong organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Ability to obtain and maintain secret/TS level security clearance
  • Willing and able to work extended hours and weekends as required
