Valtir is hiring a Buyer for our Orangeburg, SC plant!
Valtir is A Tier Above in safety and innovation as a leading manufacturer of highway guardrail, highway guardrail end treatments, temporary and permanent crash cushions, truck-mounted attenuators, and cable barrier systems.
What you’ll do:
- Conduct routine purchasing activities such as: placing and entering purchase orders based on MRP or other computer system generated material demands, expediting deliveries, maintaining records on purchases in the computerized purchase order system (PONs).
- Procure assigned materials and/or services from pre-determined vendors at contracted or best possible cost, while meeting engineering/quality specifications, and delivery date requirements.
- Interact with Supply Chain customers (sales, customer service, scheduling, engineering, manufacturing, Quality, etc.) with a positive attitude and in a service directed manner.
- Assist Commodity Managers in seeking new and improved materials which will reduce costs, improve products, or serve as a substitute for scarce items as assigned.
- Report vendor performance to the assigned Commodity Manager or Supply Chain Management; participate in annual Key Vendor audits and reviews.
- Participate in plant manufacturing coordination meetings, Gemba walks, and Lean Manufacturing events. Become familiar with manufacturing processes and requirements. Participate in semi-annual plant Physical Inventories as required.
- Coordinate with plant Production Scheduler, S&OP Scheduler, and manufacturing leadership to ensure timely material flow and provide information for accurate production scheduling.
- Maintain activities and appropriate records to ensure adherence to Trinity Highway Quality Management System
- Initiate and maintain records of all known purchased or raw stock non-conforming materials. Report all non-conformances to appropriate Commodity Manager for resolution and assist in resolution as required.
- Operate independent of direct supervision, report directly to the Director of Supply Chain or his designated Manager while also being accountable to the Plant Manager.
- Limited travel for training (initial one week in the Dallas Corp Office for onboard training and development)
What you’ll need:
- Preferred, High school graduate with four or more years of fabrication manufacturing related work experience (in areas of accounting, purchasing, scheduling, or inventory control) or two years of college education with emphasis in Supply Chain Management, Business, Manufacturing or related areas and two years of fabrication manufacturing related work experience (in areas of accounting, purchasing, scheduling, or inventory control); or BS/BA degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Systems Engineering, Industrial Manufacturing or related areas from an accredited college or university.
- Experience using an MRP System and PC based software is required.
- Good Oral/Written communication skills with a keen sense of detail
- Ability to perform and understand basic math calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide)
- Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to perform all essential functions safely and efficiently
