In this role, the Assistant Plant Manager will assist the Plant Manager in overseeing manufacturing, manufacturing support, and administrative functions needed to run a manufacturing operation. As a member of the leadership team, the Assistant Plant Manager will take an active role in plant management and execution of the business plan. The Assistant Plant Manager will be tasked with contributing to policies for sustainable earning results, streamlining/standardizing workflow and creating a team environment to increase productivity. Responsibilities for this role will also include identifying and driving continuous improvement efforts, optimization of inventory networks, plant line capacity, process planning capabilities and systems, supporting short- and long-term improvement, delivery performance, flexibility, and availability. The Assistant Plant Manager’s overall objective is to meet customer expectations, maintain compliance with quality guidelines and regulatory requirements, ensure a safe and secure work environment for all employees, contractors and visitors while reducing costs, increasing service levels, and achieving operation manufacturing excellence as Best in Class.
Responsibilities:
- Continue improving and monitoring employee and plant safety to ensure OSHA and company policy compliance.
- Assists the PM in developing financial budgets and activities to fund operations, maximize investments and increase efficiency.
- Monitors, and maintains production systems, distribution, and customer service.
- Manages and directs assets to maintain business plans and programs to see work through completion.
- Understands, and communicates the vision for the plant and communicates strategy and objectives effectively.
- Establishes clear and consistent expectations for performance and leverages resources available to accomplish goals.
- Follows up on critical tasks and holds people accountable for adhering to process and protocol.
- Ensures that the team has necessary resources and removes barriers where appropriate.
- Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by partnering with maintenance department and vendor/contractors to coordinate preventive maintenance requirements.
- Stage work and recalibrate throughout the day as necessary to meet customer demand.
- Prioritize the necessary resources and create the tactical steps required to accomplish goals on time.
- Identifies talent correctly and shows ownership of all aspects of plant staffing and retention.
- Exhibits a strong work ethic and focus on Lean Manufacturing, safety, quality, productivity, and P&L management.
- Persistent in achieving desired results.
Requirements:
- Experience with moderate to complex project management in a steel fabrication environment
- Experience specific to leading in high growth environments, effectively aligning materials, costs, equipment, and people.
- Has led moderate to complex operations with products on multiple manufacturing lines including outfitting, and coating.
- Able to apply stringent quality control and federal regulatory requirements.
- In depth knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and practices
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or Business preferred.
- Experience in Galvanizing, or Plating desirable
- Minimum of 2 - 4 years working with large, highly outfitted complex steel products with many steps in the manufacturing process
- Strong collaboration and relationship building skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and lead high performing teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability in identifying, defining, and solving business problems.
- Demonstrated ability to drive results and work effectively in a fast paced and changing environment with multiple priorities.
- Able to motivate and connect with people with a sense of enthusiasm, passion and commitment for their work and encourage them to do their best.
- Ability to apply continuous improvement strategies across all functions, which includes the ability to introduce needed change, create excitement for change and lead change initiatives.
- Must be open to new ideas.
- Ability to refine communication skills based on their audience, uses active listening skills and non-verbal rapport building skills and effectively communicates their message to both large and small groups.
- Strong decision-making skills, sound judgment, and the ability to create/adapt to a changing work environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, and an “out of the box” approach to innovation and efficiency.
- Strong Microsoft Suite experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) with the ability to convert data to charts, graphs, and reports if needed.
- UKG, ADP, and NetSuite experience desirable.
