What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabrication Shop Supervisor position at Valtir LLC?
Under the direction of the Research and Development Manager, the Fabrication Shop Supervisor shall be responsible for coordinating and supervising operations necessary to fabricate and install a wide variety of engineering designs. The person in this position shall also supply feedback for product designs as it relates to ease of fabrication, lowering costs, improving installations, etc. Work requires a sound knowledge of materials and fabrication techniques. Job duties shall include:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Direct, train and supervise assigned Engineering Technicians in the fabrication and installation of product prototypes, improvements and display systems as assigned.
- Coordinate fabrication and installation of product prototypes in a timely and efficient manner as directed through work orders, drawings and verbal instructions. Interact with other departments as necessary to complete assignments.
- Operate and maintain all shop equipment in a safe efficient manner. This includes recommending equipment purchases, maintenance scheduling, ordering of tooling and supplies. Equipment shall include welding/fabricating, machining, forklifts and construction equipment.
- Actively participate on new product design teams to develop innovative solutions for new product design problems. This work can include use of computer software, knowledge of different materials and creative thought processes.
- Ability to work in a team environment is critical.
- Act as the Safety Officer for the Valtir (Rocklin) facility, as assigned. Utilize a Safety Committee to assist with inspections, procedures, injury reports and safety violation reporting.
- Coordinate the Environmental / Hazardous Material storage and disposal program for the Rocklin Facility
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Write specifications, procedures, employee evaluations and reports as necessary.
- Continually strive for improved employee morale and performance. Encourage and assist in implementing employee suggestions.
- Assist the Office Manager with general Rocklin facility needs.
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed by supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduate or equivalent is required. Minimum five (5) or more years of experience working in a fabrication shop desired. Minimum two (2) or more years of supervisory experience desired. Position requires extensive experience in the reading, understanding, and explaining of engineering drawings, sketches and verbal instructions. Required fabrication experience shall include but not limited to, metals, plastics, wood, and concrete using common techniques (welding, machining, metal working, carpentry, etc.). Computer experience required, and shall include Windows Office programs. Solid modeling and 2D CAD experience desired. Familiarity with OSHA regulations, safety procedures, and ASTM standards and specifications is also desirable.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The Engineering Technician Supervisor must be able to work inside (climate controlled) as well as in a warehouse/shop (non-climate controlled) and outdoors in various weather conditions with reasonable physical strength. Communicate using verbal and/or written instructions; perform basic math calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide). Must have the ability to read, understand and explain technical drawings. Comprehend hazardous material warning labels and instructions, plant safety rules and how to administer them. Perform various manual labor functions including the ability to lift 50 lbs. Forklifts are available to move heavier objects. May be required to work extended hours on a periodic basis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a combination of areas including a climate-controlled office area and a non-climate-controlled mechanic-type shop area. Work may also be required to work outside in all types of weather, from cold to very hot and humid.
Range of Pay - $72k-$123k, based on experience
