Reports To: Facility CEO
Supervises: All clinical personnel involved in Pre-Op/Admitting, Operating, PACU/Recovery rooms.
Classification: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma from accredited nursing program.
Licensure as registered nurse.
Minimum of 3 years management experience with emphasis on surgery in both the operating room and recovery area.
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE
Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises all clinical and ancillary support personnel involved in Pre-Op/Admitting, Operating Room, and Recovery Room.
- Establishes policy and standards of nursing care and practice (with the approval of the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee) at Facility.
- Consults with Medical Director with regard to medical problems.
- Communicates closely with Scheduling Coordinator regarding approved procedures. Checks draft of each operating schedule in advance and makes necessary corrections.
- Works closely with the Facility CEO to review and revise current facility policies and procedures.
- Interviews candidates for Operating Room, Recovery Room, and Pre-Op/Admitting positions and makes recommendations to the Facility CEO for hiring or termination of employment.
- Collaborates with the Safety Committee to develop and monitor orientation policies and procedures to provide competent staff.
- Arranges inservice programs and schedules staff meetings.
- Provides an adequate monitor of qualified staff. Coordinates, assigns, and/or provides relief coverage according to needs of the clinical areas. Substantiates all overtime hours to the Facility CEO.
- Coordinates vacation and time off schedules with approval from Facility CEO.
- Monitors licensure of professional nursing personnel and CPR status.
- Performs annual evaluations and monitors job performance of nursing staff to confirm compliance with policies and personal protection.
- Affords efficient flow of procedures by monitoring surgeon availability, on time arrival, and informing surgeons of any delays.
- Monitors sterilization procedures for instruments and supplies and storage of same.
- Arranges maintenance and repair of medical equipment.
- Monitors efficient ordering of supplies and forwards purchase requests for capital
equipment to Facility CEO.
- Schedules and conducts quarterly evacuation and fire drills for all Facility personnel.
- Meets with manufacturer representatives regarding updates on equipment and new products.
- Serves as an Ad Hoc member of the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee to report complication data and infection control statistics.
- Chairs the Safety Committee and schedules meetings. Prepares minutes for report to Continuous Quality Improvement Committee.
- Coordinates employee injury/illness program with Safety Coordinator.
- Reviews variance reports filed by staff members. Completes investigative documentation
as appropriate and forwards to Facility CEO for review.
