Lead Data Architect (AWS & Snowflake)

OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Lead Data Architect with deep expertise in AWS and Snowflake to join our Engineering Center. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing cutting-edge data solutions and accelerators for multiple business units, with a primary focus on the Property & Casualty (P&C) domain . You will lead technical initiatives, deliver Proofs of Concept (POCs), provide thought leadership on data strategies, frameworks, AI adoption (especially in claims and underwriting), and best practices in data engineering . The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience, multiple certifications, and a proven track record of staying ahead of evolving data trends.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical Leadership & Strategy

Serve as the primary technical authority on AWS and Snowflake solutions, guiding strategy and best practices.

  • Provide thought leadership on AI adoption in claims, underwriting , and other advanced analytics use cases relevant to the P&C domain.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends, proactively identifying opportunities for innovation.
  • Solution Architecture & Design
  • Architect data platforms and modern analytics solutions leveraging AWS services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift) and Snowflake.

  • Evaluate and select appropriate tools and frameworks to meet project requirements (e.g., data ingestion, transformation, analytics).
  • Provide detailed estimations for various data architecture patterns, considering cost, complexity, and operational factors.
  • Accelerators & POCs
  • Design and develop accelerators and reusable frameworks for rapid solution deployment.

  • Lead Proof of Concept (POC) initiatives to validate new technologies or methodologies, transitioning successful POCs into production-ready solutions.
  • Data Governance & Methodologies
  • Champion Data Governance , Master Data Management (MDM) , Data Quality , and Data Observability best practices.

  • Establish guidelines and frameworks to ensure data integrity, regulatory compliance, and consistent data processes across teams.
  • Data Modernization & Data Operations
  • Define and execute data modernization strategies, ensuring seamless migration from legacy systems to modern data platforms.

  • Oversee data migration projects and data operations , ensuring minimal downtime and high data integrity.
  • Implement industry-leading practices for data lifecycle management and operational excellence.
  • Architecture Reviews & Thought Leadership
  • Conduct regular architecture reviews of projects, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and compliance with security, scalability, and performance requirements.

  • Develop technical roadmaps, whitepapers, and presentations to guide the organization on data engineering best practices and emerging data trends.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (data engineers, data scientists, business stakeholders) to ensure the successful delivery of data initiatives.

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior architects and engineering teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Multi-Account & Multi-Region Management
  • Oversee and optimize AWS and Snowflake usage across multiple accounts and regions , ensuring cost efficiency, security, and high availability.

  • Implement best practices for multi-account governance, CI / CD, infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps methodologies.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation
  • Remain up to date on industry trends, new AWS services, Snowflake features, and other emerging technologies.

  • Identify opportunities for automation, process improvements, and innovation within the data ecosystem.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.

  • 12 years of overall IT experience, with at least 5 years in Data Architecture roles focusing on AWS and Snowflake.
  • Technical Expertise
  • Expert-level proficiency in AWS (EC2, S3, Glue, EMR, Redshift, Lambda, IAM, etc.) and Snowflake (data warehousing, performance tuning, security).

  • Hands-on experience in data modeling , ETL / ELT processes, schema design for large-scale data warehousing.
  • Proven ability to provide detailed estimations for data architecture solutions.
  • Certifications
  • AWS Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional).

  • Snowflake Certifications (e.g., SnowPro Advanced Architect).
  • Data Governance & MDM
  • Proven experience implementing Data Governance frameworks, MDM solutions, and Data Quality practices.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Soft Skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive consensus.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with P&C insurance or broader insurance industry data practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in AI adoption for advanced analytics in claims, underwriting, or similar domains.
  • Background in large-scale digital transformation or enterprise architecture initiatives.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Experience with big data technologies and frameworks (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka).
