Van-Am Tool & Engineering is seeking an experienced and motivated Night Shift Lead to oversee operations in our Paint/Powder Coat Department. Located in St. Joseph, MO, Van-Am is a precision metal manufacturing facility delivering high-quality solutions to a variety of industries. This leadership role is crucial for maintaining production efficiency, upholding quality and safety standards, and fostering a strong team-oriented environment on the night shift. - Shift Hours 3:30PM to 2:00AM, Monday thru Thursday nights.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate night shift activities in the Paint/Powder Coat Department.
- Assign work orders, monitor workflow, and ensure timely completion of production goals.
- Conduct regular quality checks and ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
- Identify and address production bottlenecks or delays to optimize performance.
- Support training and development of team members, ensuring proper use of equipment and adherence to procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by enforcing safety protocols and conducting routine inspections.
- Communicate effectively with other shifts and departments to ensure seamless handoffs and production continuity.
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and coordinate with maintenance when necessary.
- Provide feedback and coaching to team members to improve performance and morale.
- Document and report shift production metrics, quality issues, and other key operational updates.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Previous leadership experience in a production or coating department preferred.
Skills:
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of paint and powder coating processes.
- Ability to interpret work orders, production schedules, and safety guidelines.
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable using basic computer systems for reporting and communication.
Certifications:
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain upon hire) preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.
- Knowledge of safety, quality, and environmental regulations related to coating operations.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods during the shift.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Regular exposure to manufacturing environment including fumes, noise, and varying temperatures.
Work Environment
- Full-time, night shift position in a manufacturing setting.
- Standard schedule: Monday-Thursday, 3:30 PM-2:00 AM.
- $2.00/hour night shift differential applies.
