Van-Am Tool & Engineering is seeking a seasoned Purchasing Manager to join our team at our manufacturing facility in St. Joseph, MO. This is a pivotal role with an annual procurement budget of $15 million. You will be instrumental in developing and executing strategies that ensure a reliable, cost-effective supply chain for our production operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be at the forefront of optimizing supply chain processes, managing vendor relationships, and driving cost-saving initiatives.
Position Overview
In this role, you will lead procurement operations by crafting innovative strategies that align with our business objectives, negotiating favorable terms with suppliers, and rigorously managing procurement contracts to protect company interests. Your responsibilities will include sourcing and evaluating potential vendors, ensuring that all quality, delivery, and cost targets are met, and analyzing procurement data to guide decision-making. You will work collaboratively with production, engineering, quality assurance, and finance teams to streamline operations, reduce lead times, and minimize inventory costs while mitigating supply chain risks through effective contingency planning.
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field, have 5-8 years of procurement experience ( with 2-4 years in a metal manufacturing or fabrication environment ), and possess strong negotiation, communication, and leadership skills. Proficiency with procurement software and ERP systems is essential, and experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, Tableau, or Power BI, as well as certifications like CPSM or CSCP, is highly valued. Experience with Epicor is a PLUS!
