Role Overview
As a Quality Engineer, you will maintain a safe and healthy work environment while ensuring that Van-Am Defense Systems' high-quality standards are met. You will interpret engineering drawings, inspect products at various stages of production, and document test results to ensure compliance with quality management system procedures. This role involves recommending process improvements, performing destructive and nondestructive testing, supporting manufacturing operations, and coordinating equipment maintenance.
You will also be responsible for creating quality and manufacturing plans, initiating and managing nonconformance reports, and assisting with corrective actions to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Ensuring compliance with safety regulations, maintaining calibrated tools, and adhering to hazardous materials handling protocols will also be critical responsibilities in this role.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel as a Quality Engineer, candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, with an associate degree in a related field preferred. You should have at least one year of education or equivalent experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, though 3-5 years of experience is preferred.
You must have extensive experience with measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and other tools. Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001 and AS9100, as well as quality tools like 8D, SPC, and GD&T, is essential. A strong ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D engineering prints is required. Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is a must, and additional language skills are an advantage. You should also possess strong mathematical and analytical skills to perform necessary calculations.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include inspecting products for compliance with engineering specifications, testing materials and components to evaluate their performance, and maintaining records of inspection and test data. You will recommend modifications to quality and production standards and collaborate with the Director of Quality to maintain equipment.
You will support manufacturing operations through random inspections, process improvements, and cost reductions. Ensuring proper calibration of inspection tools and maintaining compliance with safety procedures will also be critical to your success.
