Rate of Pay: $21.27 - $29.20 based on experience
JOB SUMMARY: Performs complex clerical duties and tasks involved in criminal and civil filing for Circuit Court, Vital Records and Concealed Pistol Licenses for the County Clerk’s Office
ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
- Ability to operate a computer and related software and type with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with excellent organizational skills.
- Courteous and professional manner on telephone or counter response to the public, officers of the court, and county personnel and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to process work assignments in an accurate, efficient and effective manner.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain knowledge of Michigan Court Rules and statutes relating to job responsibilities.
- Must be able to read and comprehend court pleadings.
- Must be able to complete and pass required system certifications.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of court case records, vital records and other records maintained in the County Clerk’s Office.
- Must be able to adapt to change and technology innovations.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Open new Circuit Court cases including Civil, Family Division and Criminal.
- Enter and process pleadings into case management system.
- Enter dispositional pleadings and complete required follow through tasks.
- Receipt and process payments in criminal cases and prepare vouchers for payment to Restitution Parties.
- Post, refund or apply bonds in civil and criminal cases.
- Place pleadings in respective file folders.
- Work with defendants to set up payment plans.
- Assist the public with in-person requests, mail correspondence and over the telephone.
- Process Concealed Pistol License Applications.
- Fingerprint Concealed Pistol License Applicants.
- Accept, prepare, issue, index, and file birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, DBA’s, Notary Public Applications and Bonds.
- Assist customers with genealogy searches and record searches.
- Assist with election returns if needed.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- One-year previous experience working with Court clerical and administrative procedures or related legal field is preferred. Will consider other relevant education or professional experience that provides knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Knowledge of governmental functions and processes, local and/or county.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Employment is dependent on background check, criminal history, and drug screen. Applicant must complete County application form.

WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment.
- Ability to lift/carry up to and in excess of 25 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders.
