Job Title : Director of Respiratory Care Services
Reports to : Director of Nursing & Assistant Administrator
Work Schedule : Days, Monday – Friday
Job Summary :
Respiratory care director will oversee and assist respiratory therapists in all care services of this department. The director is an active therapist as well as all duties assigned as Respiratory Care Director.
Supervisory Responsibilities :
Recruiting, interviewing, hiring and training new staff in Respiratory Care.
Continue ongoing staff education, new policies or procedures.
Make up therapist’s work schedule calendar monthly.
Oversee daily work flow and weekly or monthly equipment maintenance services or supply changes.
Assign weekend special care services or equipment maintenance services.
Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with Van Duyn policy and in conjunction with the director of human resources.
Specific duties to the director of Respiratory care services :
Coordinate with staff education to orient new nurses, ours and agency
Respiratory care competencies, oxygen inhalers, CPAP / BiPAP, Trach care, suctioning and answering questions
N95 Fit test on all new employees during general orientation.
In cooperation with Central Supply the following : Are supplied and maintained
Oxygen concentrators are supplied, maintained and checked, weekly & monthly by central supply and the therapists
Nebulizers, suction, and large compressors are supplies, maintained and checked by central supply and the therapists
Oxygen portable tanks and liquid portables are delivered and maintained by central supply.
Clean utility rooms are supplied by central supply and check routinely by central supply and the therapists.
Ordering of respiratory supplies and parts as well as maintaining inventory of equipment is completed in conjunction with the director of Central Supply.
Required skills and Abilities
Full range of respiratory care knowledge, hospital and home care including equipment setup, service and management of therapeutic modalities and assessments, including medications.
Coordination of home discharge equipment
Ability to work with computers and computer applications as required by the position.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent time management with ability to meet deadlines.
Education
Four year degree preferred.
Registered Respiratory therapist, RRT
Two or more years’ of experience in long term care management.
Two or more years’ of experience in home care services.
Physical requirements
Prolonged standing or sitting.
Bending or kneeling.
Ability to lift more equipment up to 40 pounds.
