DESCRIPTION
We are seeking Therapeutic Recreation Aides to join our Van Duyn team! The role of a Therapeutic Recreation Aide is to develop meaningful connections with nursing home residents ranging in age from 45-104 years old through group and 1 on 1 activities. The purpose of the Therapeutic Recreation Department is to utilize structured and engaging activities to promote the physical, emotional, and social health of individuals whether they are long-term residents or plan to discharge to the community. This position requires a lively and positive individual who has creative energy and passion for increasing the quality of life of elders.
Position Qualifications / Skill Requirements :
High school diploma or GED equivalent
1 year of long-term care / nursing home experience or related healthcare field
Sufficient verbal and written communication skills
Sufficient computer and technology skills (ie. typing, taking photos, operation electronic equipment)
Creativity, positive energy and passion for increasing the quality of life of elders
Organization and time management skills
Therapeutic Recreation Certification preferred, but not required
- PCA / CHHA certified applicants are encouraged to apply, but not required
Job Tasks / Duties :
Create, implement and lead activities programs for residents in individual or group settingsWork directly with Residents on units; with and without direct supervisionTailor activities toward the interest and abilities of the current resident populationProvide individualized emotional support through one on one activitiesObtain supplies and equipment as requested / needed for planned activitiesMaintain, organize, and care for department supplies to ensure they are clean, safe, and in good-working conditionRecord daily attendance to recreation activities and prioritize resident engagementDaily documentation of residents participation in recreation activitiesObserving residents and noting any changes in behavior or healthEncourage and assist residents in attending therapeutic activity programsAssist residents back to their appropriate units following the end of therapeutic activity programsHave knowledge of, assist, and aide in the facility’s established emergency proceduresCollaborate with other therapeutic recreation team members and direct supervisor and assist with setting up program areas as neededRegular communication with members of the resident’s interdisciplinary team (ie. nurse, social worker) regarding resident engagement, changes, or other relevant updatesEnsure resident safety through accessible therapeutic activities and making accommodation as necessaryBenefits for Full-time employees include :
