Van Meter Community School District is a progressive growing district located 10 miles west of West Des Moines that is committed to developing a learning environment that is PERSONALIZED, INNOVATIVE, & GLOBAL. District enrollment is approximately 1100 students, with one building, PreK-12. This unique opportunity for all students and staff to be in one building allows for many extended collaboration and community-building opportunities.

The Van Meter Community School District offers a comprehensive benefits package, including IPERS. Employees with proof of existing health insurance can choose to receive a monthly cash stipend in lieu of insurance. Employees receive 15 days of sick leave each year, the opportunity to transfer up to 20 days of sick leave from a previous district, opportunities to exchange sick leave for personal days, and the opportunity to get paid $225 for unused personal days. Every Friday afternoon is an early out for professional development opportunities. Teacher flex work days are offered for certain professional development days during the school year.

Salary

Experience honored, innovative performance based pay structure

Minimum salary of $56,000 (negotiable based on current salary)

Monthly cash stipend ($537) in lieu of health insurance if you already have health insurance coverage.

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the building principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district and state approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress / activities / outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, families, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Provides instruction to special education students in accordance with each student's individualized education program.

Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programming using a variety of innovative instructional strategies.

Provides individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student.

Sets specific objectives and learning targets with instructional preparation.

Assess, monitor, and document student progress.

Works cooperatively with regular education teaching staff to coordinate instructional activities and to monitor the progress of each student.

Provides and supports instruction in the regular classroom as assigned.

Maintains educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records, and other documentation as required.

Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.

Consults with members of the student assistance team regarding each student's educational program, academic program and personal growth.

Meets and maintains contact with parents / families and other professional staff to review and revise the individualized education program and placement of each assigned student.

Communicates with parents / families to inform them about the school program and to discuss student progress.

Participates in the development of the district's plan for special education.

Maintains professional competence and continuous improvement through professional growth activities.

Participates in school-level planning, faculty meetings / committees and other school system groups.

Makes effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program.

Maintains confidentiality standards as defined by local, state, and federal guidelines.

Performs other duties within the scope of employment and certification as may be assigned.

Ability to

Critically evaluate the educational achievement of students, using data.

Prepare lesson plans and organize a meaningful instructional program.

Prepare appropriate assessments and interpret results.

Use data-driven decision making to drive instruction.

Maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.

Communicate effectively with others.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS :

Bachelor's degree in a specialized field of education.

Instructional Strategist I endorsement.

Successful completion of criminal background investigation.
