Van Ness Feldman is a nationally recognized law firm focused on energy, environmental, and natural resources law and policy. With offices in Washington DC, Seattle, the Bay Area, Houston, and Louisiana, the firm has nearly 50 years’ experience providing strategic business advice, legislative and policy advocacy, legal and regulatory compliance counsel, representation in administrative proceedings and litigation, and support for project development, permitting, and transactions.
The DC office is seeking an HR Generalist – Benefits & Compensation. This role will work closely with the firm’s Human Resources Department to support attorneys and professionals across all offices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Benefits
- Administer firm-wide employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plans, and wellness initiatives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits-related questions, claims issues, and coverage concerns.
- Assist with annual open enrollment, including employee communications and system updates.
- Conduct benefits orientations for new hires and provide ongoing employee education.
- Develop and maintain benefits communication materials and update the firm’s intranet accordingly.
- Create and analyze HRIS reports.
- Assist with 5500 reporting, nondiscrimination testing, and ACA filing requirements.
- Assist with annual retirement plan audit.
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, COBRA, FMLA, HIPPA, and other applicable regulations.
- Process and maintain employee HR and benefits data in the ADP HRIS, ensuring accuracy in electronic transmissions to benefits carriers.
- Reconcile benefit invoices and maintain accurate employee HR and benefit records.
- Assist in the development and implementation of HR processes and system improvements.
Compensation
- Support the coordination of annual merit increases and bonuses
- Complete salary surveys and compensation reports, and conduct market research
- Ensure compliance with laws relating to equal pay, job classification, and other relevant regulations
- Provide analytical support for compensation-related projects and initiatives
Desired Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in HR management or a related field
- Minimum 3-5 years of proven benefits experience
- Experience with payroll is a plus
- CEBS, SHRM-CP, or PHR Certifications are a plus
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines
- Knowledge of employee benefits laws and regulations
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite and SharePoint
- ADP Workforce Now experience is highly preferred
Salary Range: $65,000 to $70,000
