Summary
The Punch Press Operator 2 uses a Punch Press to punch out parts from metal sheets that will later be bent, pressed, and welded.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret prints
- Prepare proper tooling as required
- Load programs into CNC machine accurately to meet job specifications
- Edit program at the machine with supervision.
- Start machines, monitor their operations, and record operation data to ensure proper program performance
- Verify the accuracy of the parts
- Maintain machinery, work area, tooling and equipment in a clean and organized condition
- Sharpen, dress, and demagnetize punch tooling as needed
- Inspect, measure, or test completed parts to ensure conformance to specifications, using measuring and testing devices such as micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates and rulers
- Seek out solutions to correct any issues with completed parts
- Deburr parts as required
- Perform regular maintenance on punch machinery
- Run additional machinery such as a lathe, tool sharpener, parts tumbler, and surface grinder
- Label and stack parts
- Move material skids and parts pallets through the shop with a forklift
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and qualifications:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience required
- 13 years previous relevant experience preferred
- Forklift certified
- Ability to make decisions independently and multitask.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Commitment to safety and accuracy of work
- Good organization and planning skills
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Ability to read a tape measure and calipers
- Good communication skills
- Computer and word processing skills including MS Office
Work Environment:
Work is performed under in a manufacturing environment. Exposure to dust, fumes, noise, vibration, heat and cold may occur. Position requires constant standing throughout the shift.
