The Landscape Designer will be provided a stream of customer project leads and work one on one with customers to provide a detailed and professional plan that will utilize trees, shrubs, perennials, roses, annuals and landscape materials to create a happy and sustainable outdoor living space for the customer for years to come.
The Designer will be able to work a flexible hybrid schedule with provision that they will meet with customers at the Garden Center and be available at least one day on the weekend in the spring season.
Designs can be created in software for which you are licensed or in a Van Wilgen’s provided system. The ability to create simple hand drawings for less complex designs is also preferred and encouraged.
Job Requirements:
- A landscape design expertise that:
o Can be tailored to Van Wilgen’s broad variety of plants that are generally carried or easily obtained via its supply chain
o Is pragmatic with respect to plants that have a high degree of success in the customer’s environment
o Will satisfy the customer for the long term
- Can work cooperatively with the Landscape Installation team that also has non design related installation jobs
- An entrepreneurial drive to grow your income and the design related business
- Excellent customer relationship and management skills
- Highly organized documentation and planning skills
Responsibilities:
- Listen to customers wants, prepare a design and quote implementing the right plant, right place approach
- Communicate special instructions (written) to all orders in addition to the design plan and itemized plant/materials list
- Work with the Install Team Leader and the customer to reconcile jobs quickly and accurately as soon as they are finished
- Interact with customers through email, phone and in person
- Communicate with Department Leaders to secure plant material for upcoming installations, deliveries and in-store pickups.
- Provide input on marketing and setting department goals.
Preferred qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of plants either through a horticultural degree or practical experience. Both are ideal.
- Outgoing and friendly personality
- Computer skills
- LandscapePRO or comparable design program experience preferred
- Experience in hand drawing simple designs
Compensation:
- Uncapped income potential based on your energy and drive
- Salary range provided based on estimated customer visits via historical inquiry flow
