Job Description:
Vance County High School is seeking a dynamic and skilled Carpentry Teacher to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) team. The ideal candidate will inspire and prepare students for success in carpentry and construction-related fields by teaching industry-standard practices, safety protocols, and essential skills. The teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Trade and Industrial Education, focusing on carpentry and construction trades.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver instructional lessons in carpentry, including blueprint reading, construction techniques, framing, finishing, and tool operation.
- Teach and enforce safety standards, including OSHA regulations, to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Provide hands-on, project-based learning opportunities for students to gain practical experience in carpentry and construction.
- Integrate technology and industry software to enhance instruction and skill-building.
- Guide students in building projects that contribute to school or community needs.
- Prepare students for certification exams, apprenticeships, or entry-level employment in carpentry.
- Maintain and inventory tools, equipment, and materials.
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and industry partners to align curriculum with workforce demands.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and maintain current knowledge of carpentry and construction industry trends.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Education, Construction, or a related field (preferred).
- Relevant industry experience in carpentry or construction trades.
- North Carolina teaching certification in Trade and Industrial Education or willingness to obtain certification.
- Completion of OSHA online training (or willingness to complete training upon hiring).
- Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Passion for mentoring and preparing students for successful careers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching or training in a high school, community college, or industry setting.
- Familiarity with Career and Technical Education standards and programming.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies and tools used in the carpentry and construction fields.
