Job Description
General Statement of Duties The Emergency Management Coordinator assumes day to day management responsibilities for all services and activities of the Vance County Emergency Operations Emergency Management Office which provides 24-hour service for emergency situations and non-emergency assistance during normal business hours. This individual oversees all aspects of the Emergency Management function for the City & County and assists the Emergency Operations Director in the development and implementation of goals objectives policies and priorities for the Vance County Emergency Operations Emergency Management office. Additionally this individual will have a responsibility to work within the 911 Communications Center and must therefore train for and become certified in all areas allowing them to work effectively and be willing to respond as needed to Emergency Communications related events and incidents.Essential Duties and Tasks:
KSAs
Considerable knowledge of federal; state; or local policies; procedures; and regulations pertaining to the various emergency communications and emergency management services involving law enforcement; fire; emergency medical services; and rescue operations.
Considerable knowledge of resources available for emergency management; communications and other emergency services related practices and procedures.
Considerable knowledge of modern emergency management practices and procedures.
Ability to react effectively in emergency situations and to use sound judgment in making recommendations to the Emergency Operations Director and other officials.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement agencies; volunteer fire services; City and County officials; hospitals; schools; and the general public.
Administrative and program support abilities and knowledge as identified in the administrative support classifications.
Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from high school and college coursework in a field related to the work; and experience combining administrative support; emergency response and planning experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Specific training and certifications in the field of Emergency Management and Emergency Communications is also preferred.
Special Requirements:
Minimum of 10 years of experience working in public safety with emphasis on Emergency Management or Emergency Communications
Ability to obtain emergency management and 911 certifications as required by the Emergency Operations Director.
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform the physical life functions of climbing; stooping; kneeling; reaching; standing; walking; fingering; grasping; talking; hearing; and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform light duty work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures and to perform extensive reading.
