Reports To: Chief Officer of Student Services
Job Summary:
The School Psychologist will provide comprehensive psychological services to students, staff, and families to support academic achievement, social-emotional development, and mental health. This position involves assessment, consultation, intervention, and collaboration with educators and community partners to create a supportive learning environment.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Basic knowledge of NC Psychology Practice Act amendments
- Working knowledge of the assessment of personal characteristics that includes intelligence, personality, abilities, interests, aptitudes, and neuropsychological functioning
- Working knowledge of the NC Psychology Board's administrative rules
- Working knowledge of the NC Juvenile Code and HIPP A
- Working knowledge of the Protection of the Abused, Neglected, or Exploited Disabled Adult Act; and the American Psychological Association and other applicable codes of ethics
- Thorough knowledge, application, and evaluation of psychological testing
- Ability to conduct and to apply psycho-educational evaluation, therapy, remediation, and consultation
- Ability to counsel, conduct psychotherapy and behavior analyses
- Ability to treat mental/emotional, intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse
- Ability to interpret diagnostic tests and findings
- Ability to prepare comprehensive reports
- Ability to coordinate supervise work
- Ability to relate appropriately to client and staff members
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct psychoeducational assessments to identify students' cognitive, academic, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Interpret and analyze assessment data to develop individualized recommendations and intervention strategies.
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plan meetings, ensuring appropriate accommodations and services for students with disabilities.
- Provide consultation and collaboration with teachers, administrators, and parents to improve student outcomes.
- Offer counseling services to students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties.
- Develop and implement behavioral interventions and support plans.
- Assist with crisis prevention and intervention, including threat assessments and suicide prevention efforts.
- Support the implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
- Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBA) and support the development of behavior intervention plans (BIP).
- Facilitate professional development for educators and staff on topics related to mental health, learning disabilities, trauma-informed practices, and classroom management.
- Advocate for policies and practices that promote equity, inclusion, and mental wellness in schools.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws related to special education and student services.
Qualifications:
- Master's, Specialist, or Doctoral degree in School Psychology from an accredited program.
- Valid North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) School Psychologist License.
- Knowledge of North Carolina state laws, IDEA, and Section 504 regulations.
- Experience working in K-12 educational settings preferred.
- Strong skills in data analysis, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in multiple school settings, including classrooms, offices, and meetings.
- Some travel within the district may be required.
- Occasional evening meetings or professional development sessions may be necessary.
