In accordance with the organizational chart and overall plan of Vance-Granville Community College, the Associate Director of Financial Aid reports to the Director of Financial Aid in the implementation of financial aid procedures and policies while providing support for the Financial Aid Office operations.This position is eligible for up to one teleworking day per week following a 9-month training period. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assist the Director of Financial Aid with interpreting and implementing state, federal, and institutional policies in all phases and types of student aid.Assist the Director of Financial Aid with the disbursement and reconciliation of federal, state and scholarship aid programs including requesting and returning funds.Provide highly responsible and complex administrative staff support to the Director of Financial Aid including the development and maintenance of the Financial Aid Standard Operating Procedure Manual, annual setup of Colleague for financial aid processing, internal audits, and staff training.Assist the Director of Financial Aid in the completion of federal, state, and institutional reporting requirements.Assist the Director of Financial Aid in development and dissemination of financial aid consumer information material.Safeguard confidentiality of student records.Perform all necessary functions related to the processing of aid for students, such as importing FAFSA results (Institutional Student Information Records), verification, monitoring Standards of Academic Progress, Return to Title IV calculations, review of special circumstances, and performing professional judgment functions.Communicate effectively in verbal and written form with students, families, college faculty and staff, prospective applicants, and financial aid community.Counsel students on financial aid processes, requirements, and issues ensuring quality service to students, families, and other constituents.Interpret and explain institutional, federal and state regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to financial aid.Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned part-time staff.Prepare and present information regarding financial aid, scholarships, and student employment to various campus groups, high school students, parents/guardians, orientation sessions, group discussions, workshops, and recruitment sessions.Manage the college’s scholarship awarding process in conjunction with the VGCC Foundation.Manage and counsel students on alternative loans, delinquent, and defaulted loans. Assist in administration of various aid programs including Veterans Affairs, Childcare Grants, and/or Federal Work-Study Program in accordance with prescribed regulations and maintaining program and institutional eligibility.Collaborate with campus departments including but not limited to the Admissions Office, Registrar’s Office, Business Office, and Advising & College Success, to promote student success.Review federal regulations and attend training as necessary to maintain a thorough understanding of program regulations, sources of funding to assist students, and technology resources.Performs other related duties assigned by the Director of Financial Aid or Vice President of Learning, Student Engagement & Success.
