In accordance with the organizational chart and overall plan of Vance-Granville Community College, the?Child-Care Part-Time Specialist?Assistant reports to the?Child Care Manager?and?is responsible for?the daily care and teaching activities of the children assigned to him / her.

Essential Duties

  • Responsible for the well being of all the children in the classroom. Assist the lead teacher / specialist with the everyday housekeeping routines such as cleaning tables, sweeping, etc. to keep the classroom in order.
  • Providing one on one assistance with children who are learning independent skills necessary for success in the classroom. Taking charge of individuals and groups; performing designated tasks such as reading, storytelling, supervising games, singing songs, etc. when the teacher is occupied with other duties in the classroom or is absent from the room.
  • Assist with children requiring first aid or changing soiled clothing during the school day.
  • Relieves classroom teachers as needed routinely on a daily basis to provide staff breaks
  • Fill in as classroom substitute for Lead teachers as needed
  • Assists in arranging the classroom as needed for appropriate grouping for quiet play, lunch, naps, etc.
  • Refills supplies such as baby wipes, tissue, gloves, etc. needed in the classroom and assists teachers in securing meal prep materials plus returns items to the kitchen as needed.
  • Assist by copying materials, laminating items, etc. as requested by teachers and / or director.
  • Assist in the morning routine of placing sign in sheets on the outside table and placing all walkie talkies on the front table for teachers to retrieve upon arrival. Greeting the students at the door, taking temperatures, walking students to their appropriate classrooms and assist children in hand washing routine. Checking for parent signatures upon arrival; and weekly preparing new sign in sheets.
  • Perform duties as needed such as preparing meals, cleaning, etc. when an emergency arises

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required :

  • Have a high school diploma or high school equivalency and a North Carolina Early Child Care Credential or taking classes to obtaining North Carolina Early Child Care Credential
  • Must be willing to submit to local, state, and federal criminal background checks
  • Must submit a signed health statement at the time of employment
  • Must submit evidence of a T.B. test at time of employment. Cannot be more than 12 months old.
  • Must have be willing to obtain CPR / First Aid certification with in 90 days of employment.
  • Documentation of health and safety training within 6 weeks of employment
  • Education and Experience Preferred :

  • Two years of experience in an early childhood setting preferred.
  • For all staff positions, salary determinations are based on the minimum educational qualifications required and the number of years of relevant experience associated with the position. The entry-level salary at VGCC corresponds to individuals possessing the minimum years of experience necessary for this role. Conversely, to qualify for the upper end of VGCC's salary range, an individual must have over 25 years of experience relevant to the position.

    Physical Demands

  • This individual must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must provide a signed health statement and T.B. test results at the time of employment
  • Each employee, including the director, shall also annually submit a medical statement from a licensed physician or authorized health professional as defined in(a) of this Rule, or must complete a health questionnaire giving information about the status of his / her health on a form provided by the Division.
  • The Division, or the director of the child care center, may request another evaluation of an employee's emotional and physical fitness to care for children when there is reason to believe that there has been deterioration in the person's emotional or physical fitness to care for children.
  • Must be physically able to stand for long periods of time and pick up children for diaper changing or emergency purposes.
  • Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements. Respond immediately and appropriately to multiple or unexpected situations or emergencies.
  • Demonstrate full range of motion to lift, reach, squat, climb, sit, and otherwise fully participate in activities.
  • Frequently lift, move, or hold children with a range of weight from 10 to 40 pounds. Occasionally lift, move, or hold weight more than 40 pounds
