Job Overview:
Vancomm is seeking a skilled and experienced Directional Drill Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in operating directional drilling equipment, with a strong focus on safety and quality. As a Directional Drill Operator, you will play a key role in the installation of underground utilities, ensuring the project runs efficiently and safely from start to finish.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain directional drilling equipment, including drills, locators, and associated tools.
- Perform pre-operation checks and daily inspections to ensure all equipment is in proper working condition.
- Execute horizontal directional drilling for the installation of pipes, cables, and other utilities.
- Monitor and adjust equipment settings to ensure accuracy and efficiency during the drilling process.
- Collaborate with field crews to ensure proper placement and alignment of utilities.
- Maintain accurate and detailed logs of job progress, materials used, and any issues encountered.
- Adhere to safety standards, regulations, and company policies at all times.
- Troubleshoot and resolve minor equipment issues on-site to minimize downtime.
- Assist with site preparation, including locating utility lines and digging test holes when needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certification in directional drilling is a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating directional drilling equipment.
- Proficient in the use of directional drill systems, locators, and associated equipment.
- Strong understanding of utility installation techniques, safety practices, and industry standards.
- Ability to read and interpret project plans and diagrams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid Driver’s License required, CDL a plus
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Vermeer Drilling Equipment
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments.
- Previous experience in underground utility installation and trenchless technology.
