Financial Counselor - Infusion

Responsible for insurance verification and eligibility.

Will obtain authorization for non-chemo infusions and counsel patients on insurance benefits and co-payments.

Will creates a written financial outline of benefits and potential out of pocket costs.

Works closely with Infusion Clinic staff to facilitate timely scheduling of treatments and maintenance of future appointments. Schedule : Mon - Fri 8am to 5pm, will be on site at the office. Hiring Range : $21.20 / hour to $28.00 / hour, commensurate with applicable professional experience. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Ensures all insurance and eligibility information is verified and an authorization obtained prior to scheduling infusions for all patients.
  • Verify on the first business day of each month all commercial, Medicaid insurance.
  • Re-verify all insurance eligibility benefits on an annual basis at the beginning of each year.
  • Performs insurance verification process on all third party payers.

Obtains initial and subsequent preauthorization for services.

  • Ensures completeness of authorization request by confirming ICD,10, CPT, and HCPC codes are indicated for prescribed treatment, and sufficient medical information is provided to make a correct authorization determination.
  • Communicates with providers to gather any required documentation.

  • Reviews new orders in EMR from providers.
  • Obtains benefits / authorization and accurately enters authorization into system.

  • Schedule patients for Infusion once authorized.
  • Communicates with Clinic Manager when there are issues with authorization : i.e., medication not approved for indication, approval delayed due to pending insurance issues.
  • Performs financial counseling process for patients.
  • Provides Business Office contact information as needed.
  • Facilitates application for patient co-pay assistance programs as and assists with completion of forms.
  • Review of schedules are done on a daily basis to check for current authorization, updated as needed.
  • Interfaces regularly with account rep specialist in CBO on insurance, billing and reimbursement.
  • Demonstrates an understanding for patient confidentiality to protect the patient and the clinic / corporation.
  • Maintains the follow-up work queue to locate patients that have cancelled, no show, or were cancelled by others in order to reschedule appointments
  • Answer questions from billing office regarding enrollment and AOB forms
  • Tracks patient assistance and re-enrolls patients when needed
  • Answer patient assistance and re-enrolls patients when needed
  • Answer patient questions regarding billing and co-pay assistance.
  • Communicates concerns to business office

  • Identifies and resolves patient, provider, department, and insurance company concerns, requests, and problems related to referral issues
  • Maintain several worklists including Patient Drug Breakdown, monthly infusion appointments, pending review, ready to schedule, needs review, ect.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned by Clinic Manager.
  • Follows policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the Infusion Center.
  • Keeps updated with web casts, conferences, etc., on most recent changes / updates, including but not limited to : coding, insurances, CMS guidelines. SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Ability to work with moderate direction and complete tasks and assignments in atimely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to quickly adjust to changing projects and priorities. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) year of medical terminology and / or ICD-10, CPT, HCPC coding experience preferred.
  • Two-years of financial counseling experience in a healthcare setting strongly preferred.
  • Experience with and knowledge of patient assistance programs, insurance plans, and criteria for infusion treatments preferred. Pay Range : $20.76 - $29.06 The above information is intended to indicate the general nature and level of work required in this position.

    Eligibility for benefits is dependent on factors such as position type and FTE.

    Benefit-eligible employees qualify for benefits beginning on the first of the month following one month of employment.

    Benefits-eligible employees accrue PTO and Personal Time based on hours worked and State worked, totaling 120 hours in the first year for full time staff and 200 hours in the first year for full time supervisors and above, increasing in subsequent years.

    PTO and Personal Time accruals are pro-rated by FTE / hours worked.

    Non-benefits eligible employees will accrue Personal Time based on hours worked and State worked.

    Employees will also enjoy up to six paid holidays per year, depending on schedule.
