Our team is dedicated to balancing faith, family, and work to build projects, friendships, and neighborhoods. We are currently seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of our company fleet and equipment, ensuring their safe and reliable operation on company grounds and job sites.
Responsibilities
- Conduct maintenance and repairs on landscape equipment, small engines, and fleet vehicles based on work orders.
- Diagnose and repair/replace various parts and components, including transmissions, engines, drain lines, rear axles, gearboxes, springs, drive lines, operator compartments, fixed ladders, and walkways.
- Service equipment by greasing trucks, changing oil/fluids, and welding components necessary for repairs or fabrication.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems, hydraulic components, steering systems, and brake systems.
- Respond to service calls and coordinate equipment repairs.
- Adhere to company and industry safety policies, including OSHA and DOT/FMCSA regulations.
- Utilize shop equipment and tools, including hand tools, welders, and torches.
- Collaborate with the shop supervisor and Head Mechanic to determine the most time and cost-effective repair methods.
- Communicate with foremen, personnel, and supervisors to gather information and estimate repair times.
- Generate questions or suggestions on repairs to share with the shop supervisor.
- Complete shop paperwork and maintain a clean and safe work area.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- Post-secondary certificate or degree in diesel mechanics (a plus)
- 2 to 5 years of experience with diesel/heavy equipment repair
- Welding experience (a plus)
- Manual dexterity
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, reach, squat, push, and pull objects
- Capacity to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to tolerate working outdoors in all temperatures and weather conditions
