What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Support Specialist position at Vanderbilt Area Schools?
Qualifications:
· High School Diploma (or equivalent).
· Ability to work cooperatively with others.
· Willingness to follow instructions from teachers related to carrying out individual student's educational plans and meeting classroom expectations.
· Effective communication skills with students (and adults) to encourage and aid student progress.
· Strong record-keeping abilities, including academic growth data.
· Capable of connecting successfully with students to provide supplemental academic support and interventions as prescribed by the classroom teacher.
· Organized, self-directed, and flexible to work with varied schedules and individual needs.
Additional Responsibilities:
· Prepare the classroom to promote a healthy and safe learning environment.
· Ensure classroom safety guidelines are met at all times.
· Utilize various techniques to successfully manage students.
· Engage with children to enhance and encourage learning.
· Assist the teacher in modifying materials to meet the specific needs of each child.
· Provide basic caregiving duties, support, and encouragement in all aspects of development.
· Take necessary precautions to protect students.
· Monitor the classroom and minimize distractions and disruptions.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· Assist with other personal or physical or physical care assistance with bathroom functions, including changing of diapers or pull-ups.
· Current CPI Training preferred or willing to obtain by the end of school year.

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
