The Patient Care Technician is responsible for assisting in direct patient care specific to the unit assigned; assisting with patient transfers and repositioning, transporting of patients, supplies, or specimens; and any other duties as deemed necessary to ensure optimal patient care and physician service, under the direction and supervision of the professional nurse. The Patient Care Technician is responsible to the Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse, Clinical Supervisor, Department Manager/Director, Nursing Supervisor, Associate Directors of Nursing Services and the Chief Nursing Officer.

Sign-On Bonus Eligibility:
The sign-on bonus does not apply to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past twelve months. The sign-on bonus is only available for full-time positions.
Schedule : Full-Time Days: 6:45 am - 7:15 pm. Rotating weekends and holidays
ICU Uni t 14 beds: Care includes myocardial infarction, acute respiratory failure, shock, diabetic ketoacidosis, multi-system organ failure
Qualifications:
Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) and one of the following:
Current enrollment in a program of professional nursing RN and successful completion of the first semester of nursing school to include nursing fundamentals clinical, or
Graduation from a Nursing Assistant or Aide Training Program, or (the certification is not mandatory, but a certificate of completion is necessary)
Minimum of one year of previous experience as a care partner or nursing assistant/technician.

- Provides patient care based upon the nursing process in accordance with the hospitals mission & vision, as directed and observed by the RN/LPN.
- Ability to work under limited supervision and to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to demonstrate effective communications skills, empathy, and unconditional positive regard toward all patients and co-workers.
- Compliance with organizational requirements, including policies, procedures and regulations specific to the unit.
- Flexibility in schedule in order to meet the needs of the patients, community and staff.
- Maintains annual education requirements prior to due date.
- Knowledge and implementation of standardized PPE regarding the prevention / transmission of infectious disease / isolation processes.
