What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outreach Teacher, Early Interventionist position at Vanderbilt University?
The Outreach Teacher (Developmental Therapist) will travel in Davidson County working with families with children ages birth to three years old with developmental disabilities. The DT will coach and engage caregivers in home visits and support caregivers’ learning of strategies that can be used within their daily routines to support the children’s learning needs. The DT will develop and maintain positive relationships with caregivers while interacting in a friendly, professional manner. The position is funded through a State of Tennessee grant. The partnership is with TEIS (Tennessee Early Intervention System) and the DT will work with other specialists from TEIS to support the families.
The staff of Susan Gray School is committed to ensuring that the program provides children with a safe and accepting environment that promotes independence and includes frequent opportunities to practice and successfully master developmentally appropriate cognitive, communication, motor, social, and adaptive skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures that visits with families are conducted according to TEIS/DHS processes and procedures
- Ensures that TEIDS entries are completed according to TEIS/DHS processes and procedures
- Completes AEPS assessments per child according to IFSP deadlines
- Individualizes behavior intervention and instructional strategies based on needs and developmentally appropriate practices
- Consistently meets requirements for timely filing of documentation as required
- Participates in IFSP/IEP development and meetings upon request
- Collects data on progress towards individual goals developed by educational team
- Meets all mandated continuing education requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field and is required. Transcripts are required and will be submitted to TEIS for approval.
- At least one year of specific experience or skill in relevant domains is preferred.
