The HEAL Project is seeking a dedicated and skilled Qualitative Research Specialist to join our team at the Center for Research on Inequality in Health at Vanderbilt University. This project focuses on examining racial disparities in end-of-life experiences, with a particular emphasis on social determinants of health. This is a temporary position ideal for individuals passionate about advancing equity in healthcare research.

This is a term position. Term positions are staff positions that exist for a period longer than six months but are not expected to last beyond one year. Although a position may exist for a specified or indefinite period, staff who accept term appointments are not guaranteed employment for the entire period; they are employed for indefinite periods within the limit of the appointment. There are no guarantees of continued employment, either within the term or when the term ends.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews to support research objectives (10%)
  • Recruit participants and conduct focus groups and interviews (25%)
  • Analyze qualitative data using established methodologies (25%)
  • Write and contribute to scientific articles (10%)
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on research findings (5%)
  • Assist with HEAL project coordination (25%)

Qualifications

  • Education: Received or will receive a Master's degree in a social science discipline by May 2025 (e.g., sociology, anthropology, public health).
  • Experience: Prior experience with qualitative research methods, including conducting interviews, coding, and thematic analysis. Familiarity with end-of-life care and social determinants of health is highly preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication and organizational skills. Experience with qualitative research software (e.g., NVivo or Atlas.ti) is a plus.

Location: On-site at Vanderbilt University's Center for Research on Inequality in Health, Nashville, TN.
