GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The incumbent is responsible to aid and support teachers and other certified personnel in implementing the instructional program and related services for students with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assume responsibility for being prepared to perform instructional duties as prescribed. Implement instructional activities with students as directed by the teacher and/or building principal in school and community sites.
- Aide in the transport of students to and from various school activities as directed by the teacher/building principal.
- Assist with the physical needs including but not limited to feeding, toileting, dressing, catheterization, physical management, etc. of the students. Some heavy lifting of students is required. Administer medications and other medical supports as prescribed and directed by the school nurse.
- Acquire knowledge of the curriculum content of the classes in which he/she assists. Assist in the preparation of lesson plans, instructional materials, and data collection. Complete daily work schedules as assigned by the teacher/principal.
- Implement behavior management techniques as directed by teacher/building principal.
- Assist disabled students in getting on and off the bus. Operate a wheel chair lift as needed.
- Assist the teacher with the maintenance of classroom.
- Assist with duties such as lunchroom, recess, buses, etc.
- Participate in in-services, staffing and faculty meetings, etc.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of a specialized field (however acquired), such as basic accounting, computer, etc. Equivalent of four years in high school, plus night, trade extension, or correspondence school specialized training, and 60 college hours, Or pass the paraprofessional praxis exam. Must qualify has a Highly Qualified Paraprofessional.
Pay Range 26 or 27 (Based on Education)
Step 6 through 10 (Based on experience)
7.5 hours/day
180 day contract limit
