Land Cover GIS Technician
Our client is seeking Land Cover GIS Technicians to support a large-scale contract focused on land classification and environmental analysis. This project involves reviewing model outputs, interpreting satellite and aerial imagery, and refining classifications related to land cover features such as vegetation, bare ground, and water bodies. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a GIS background looking to gain hands-on experience in geospatial analysis.
Land Cover GIS Technician Responsibilities
- Conduct land cover classification using remote sensing techniques.
- Interpret and refine model outputs by reviewing aerial, satellite, and street-level imagery.
- Digitize vector and polygon data with accuracy and efficiency.
- Adhere to established quality control procedures to ensure data precision.
- Maintain productivity while handling repetitive geospatial tasks.
- Participate in team check-ins and editing discussions.
- Perform additional related duties as needed.
Land Cover GIS Technician Qualifications
- GIS certification, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (in progress or completed) in GIS, environmental science, or a related field.
- Experience with photo interpretation or related coursework is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to follow established workflows.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to adapt to a structured production environment while working independently.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to receive feedback.
- Comfortable with repetitive tasks requiring accuracy and precision.
Preferred:
- Experience with ArcGIS and/or QGIS software.
- Previous experience in geospatial data editing or classification.
- Familiarity with remote sensing concepts and land use mapping.
