Vanguard Behavioral Health is a healthcare organization operating in Albuquerque, New Mexico, offering detox, residential, and outpatient substance abuse and mental health treatment. Individuals seek treatment for detoxification and treatment from alcohol, opiates, and various other substances.

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Assistant to join our healthcare department. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting our medical staff and ensuring the highest level of patient care. As a Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for both administrative and clinical tasks, contributing to the smooth operation of our facility. Responsibilities

  • Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations and scheduling.
  • Administer medications as directed by physicians, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and prepare specimens for analysis.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, including coding and documentation of medical histories.
  • Provide medical administrative support, including scheduling appointments and managing patient flow.
  • Prepare examination rooms by cleaning and stocking necessary supplies.
  • Educate patients on medication administration and follow-up care instructions.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff in various settings.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology is essential for effective patient care.
  • Previous experience in a medical setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical coding practices is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively in a busy environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact compassionately with patients and their families.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant or relevant training is required.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in healthcare.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

· Patient Care

· Administer oral medications

· Supervise self-administration of medications

· Manage prescriptions

· Coordinate communication with facility MD/NP/RN

· Patient education in conjunction with MD/RN

· Check PPD results and facilitate further action when necessary

· Obtain verbal orders from MD/NP when required

· Fax prescription orders to appropriate pharmacies

· Works in conjunction with MD for client physicals, weekly assessments, and follow ups.

· Document client assessments (nursing notes, progress notes, patient education, vitals, systems assessments, etc.)

· Knowledge of how to document on a medication log (MAR)

· Document COWS and CIWA scores for patients experiencing detoxification.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Delegation to medical technicians within their scope of practice.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

Must have current licensure as a CMA in the State of New Mexico

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must have reasonable ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, hear, taste, and smell. Must be reasonably capable of lifting 20 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment may include exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

Employees with potential access to protected health information must comply with all procedures and guidelines governed by HIPPA.

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:00am - 5:00pm

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
