What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Engineering Technician position at Varex Imaging Corporation?
We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Technician to help develop a new X-ray source platform, multi-beam X-ray (MBX) sources. Specifically, we are looking for an individual familiar with x-ray source technology, vacuum science and the manufacturing processes associated with building x-ray sources. This role expects a high level of proficiency working in an R&D lab environment owning and completing tasks that span multiple disciplines and technologies. The successful candidate will excel at working on open-ended technical challenges together with a multi-disciplinary and diverse development team. This role expects a significant amount of time spent in the lab working with various pieces of equipment and hardware associated with X-ray sources: high voltage power supplies, high voltage cables, ultra-high vacuum systems, high power 5-axis laser welder, industrial vacuum furnace, hand tools, power tools, TIG welder, vacuum leak checker, nitrogen cabinets, bake-out furnaces and other equipment as needed. The role includes responsibility for owning a large portion of manufacturing processes within the MBX team , including handling day-to-day tasks. Must be able to work autonomously across various tasks to keep things moving. The remainder of the time being spent documenting test plans and results, reviewing plans and results with team members and maintaining an extensive network of subject matter experts, technical support staff and facility support staff. In addition, this technician will be expert with some, competent with most and familiar with all the following x-ray source manufacturing processes:
- Laser welding
- TIG welding
- Brazing
- Back-end processing including bakeout, HV conditioning, and focal spots
- Refractory metal machining
- Vacuum component (metal and ceramic) cleaning, outgassing and conditioning
- Ceramic material machining and metallization
- Vacuum bakeout
- Component surface preparation for ultra-high vacuum, high voltage environments
Specific skills and knowledge expected of this technician include
- High voltage (>100kV) equipment operation and maintenance
- Lab organization, safety and maintenance
- SAP or equivalent ERP product and productivity competence
- Oscilloscope and multimeter operation, working with PCB’s and understanding basic electrical concepts.
- Familiarity with Labview and approaches to data capture and logging in complex test setups
- Six Sigma Principles including Design of Experiments
- Lean Manufacturing principles
- Work with interlocks and safety devices.
- Joining of dissimilar materials
- Handling cleaning packaging and storage for vacuum components
- Understanding of heat transfer principles
- Understanding of basic material science or metallurgy principles
- Design, build and maintain ultra-high vacuum systems
- MS Office, CAD (solidworks)
- Understand and create manufacturing process maps
- Education and Experience
- B.S. or A.S. degree in Engineering or related
- 5 years of related experience
