Greenhouse Technician

Job Description

Full-time or part-time experienced Greenhouse Technician position for immediate hire. Are you passionate about horticulture, design, and enjoy working in a tropical oasis instead of an office? If so, we would love to have you join our team!

Variant Plant Company is a wholesale nursery specializing in the production of rare aroids, ferns, and other unique tropical plant species. We offer high quality plants to discerning customers. We are currently seeking a greenhouse technician to assist us with the nursery and daily horticultural operations. Greenhouse Technicians will work in our new, climate-controlled greenhouse facility and warehouse space in Milford, NJ.

Responsibilities:

· Manage crops including manual watering, pruning, pest scouting, and plant staging.

· Plant propagation including implementing proper sanitary, production, and treatment procedures.

· Tissue culture acclimatization

· Maintain plant inventory records.

· Operate automatic and manual irrigation systems.

· Greenhouse sanitation including sterilizing equipment, sweeping, & general cleaning

· Integrative pest management (under the direction of a Greenhouse Grower). Pest identification

· Audit inventory including plant material and greenhouse supplies.

· Fulfill orders including pulling customers inventory, packaging/shipping/receiving logistics.

· Assist with outfitting new greenhouse space.

· Aptitude in problem solving.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)

· Possess a high school diploma. A college degree in horticulture, or prior working experience in a greenhouse/ nursery and other related fields are considered heavily but not required.

· Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to transport plant material on occasion.

Requirements:

· Ability to stand for extended periods, lift, and bending.

· Ability to work comfortably in warm conditions and outside.

· Ability to lift 65 lbs.

· Ability to use power tools.

· Capability of forklift operation with training

· Climb ladders and adhere to safety guidelines.

· Follow EPA and other safety guidelines for integrative pest management.

· Ability to commute and possess reliable transportation.

Benefits and Pay:

· Position starting at $16 - $19.50 per hour commensurate with experience level. Opportunities for future promotion.

Pay: $16.00 - $19.50 per hour

Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week
