Job Title: Summer Academy Administrator

Location: Various Summer Academy Sites (Burnley-Moran ES, Walker, Buford, CHS)

Reports to:   Division / Site Administrator

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

Summary:

The Summer Academy Administrator is responsible for planning, supervising, and implementing Summer Academy programs to support both enrichment and remedial learning for students. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Plans, coordinates, organizes, and administers the summer academy program, preparing appropriate reports and providing support for the program and staff.
  • Assists in the recruiting and hiring of the summer academy staff 
  • Works with building administration to identify students eligible for participation in the summer academy program
  • Provides effective support to summer academy staff
  • Implements and monitors the effectiveness of the summer academy curriculum
  • Implements an effective and appropriate record keeping of summer academy attendance
  • Coordinates with school nurse to plan for student health needs
  • Prepares appropriate reports concerning students’ progress and the summer academy program
  • Counsels students regarding behavior and, if necessary, holds conferences with parents and staff
  • Maintains accurate records of disciplinary referrals and actions taken relating to students
  • Communicates effectively with staff and parents 
  • Provides classroom equipment, supplies, and instructional materials for all appropriate staff
  • Coordinates food program with Food Service Manager
  • Coordinate facilities use, transportation, technology, and custodial services 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned 

 

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

The Summer Academy Administrator must be able to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally update skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills include adhering to safety practices, planning and managing a program, preparing and maintaining accurate records, using pertinent software applications, and analyzing situations to define issues and draw conclusions. The Summer Academy Administrator also must have knowledge of age appropriate activities, business telephone etiquette, concepts of grammar and punctuation; safety practices and procedures; ability to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events, gather, collate, and/or classify data, use job-related equipment; flexibility to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances, work with data utilizing defined but different processes, operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods; work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; utilize a variety of data and job-related equipment; independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans; independent interpretation of guidelines; strong communication with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, meeting deadlines and schedules, setting priorities; work as part of a team; adapting to changing work priorities; working with frequent interruptions; monitor and appropriately allocate funds for the program.

 

Education and/or Experience:

Virginia Teaching License and at least 3 years of teaching experience are required.  A degree in Administration and Supervision or enrollment in a leadership program, as well as experience in a leadership role, is preferred. 

 

Physical Conditions and Nature of Work:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 45% walking, and 35% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions. 

 

Evaluation:

The Summer Academy Administrator is evaluated by the Site Administrator.
