What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Maintenance Supervisor position at Variety Child Learning Center?
Variety Child Learning Center (VCLC) is a not-for-profit agency providing educational and therapeutic services to young children with disabilities. We are seeking a Building/Maintenance Supervisor supporting our Levittown & Syosset, and Northport locations.
The Building/Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day cleaning, operations and maintenance, ensuring that service response meets the operational needs of the school.
VCLC operates 12 month/year. This position is scheduled for 40 hrs/wk, Monday-Friday.
Schedule may be either 9:30am - 6:00pm or 6:00am - 2:30pm.
Essential Functions:
1. Inspects school buildings, equipment, and grounds on a regular basis for needed repairs, maintenance, cleanliness, and identifies and mitigates safety issues.
2.Identifies, assigns, coordinates, and supervises all maintenance work and assists maintenance staff as needed in necessary cleaning, painting and general repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, windows, and general mechanical areas.
3. Creates estimates and proposals for repair projects, recommends priorities for completion.
4. Makes purchase recommendations and submits requests for materials and supplies as needed.
5. Maintains records of inspections to include: safety, maintenance and preventive maintenance
6. Inspects and maintains fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, and fire suppression systems on a routine basis
7. Facilitates the Inspection of building on a timely basis as per the AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act) Report, as outlined in the current Asbestos Inspection and Management Plan and maintains any applicable records required for outside contractors.
8. Maintains records and complies with applicable OCFS, SED and OSHA regulations.
9. Assist in coordinating all emergency drills.
10. Contacts providers with whom VCLC has service agreements when needed for HVAC system, alarm system, snow plowing, etc. if applicable.
Required Education and Experience:
1. Must have a High School Diploma or GED; prior maintenance, or facilities worker experience; 3-5 years supervisory experience in building/facilities management; basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems and experience using hand and electrical tools.
