BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: The Instructional Technology Coach is a full-time, campus-based position dedicated to empowering teachers to effectively integrate technology into their instructional practices to enhance student learning. This role focuses on providing pedagogical support, fostering a culture of innovation, and promoting digital equity, primarily through the implementation of the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS) program. The coach will collaborate with school leadership, district personnel, and external partners to achieve school-wide goals and improve student achievement. The 7 key hallmarks of an effective VILS Instructional Technology Coach are:

Designs adult learning systems that provide teachers with the skills and knowledge they need to advance their teaching practice and student learning.

Builds strong partnerships by recognizing the necessity of collaborative buy-in from leaders and teachers, engaging in active listening, driving teacher professional learning, and sharing responsibility for student achievement.

Promotes student-centered learning by encouraging the use of student evidence to co-plan instruction, fostering student agency, and implementing personalized learning strategies.

 

Culture & Relationships

Aligns implementation with a growth-oriented school culture through strategic relationship building and collaboration with leaders.

Adopts a systemic approach to coaching by integrating it within rigorous learning structures, addressing challenges with a solution-focused mindset, backward-designing from goals, and developing comprehensive strategies for all aspects of the coaching process.

 

Note: This position emphasizes supporting teaching and learning, not IT or technical support.

                                                                                                      

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • ESL supplement or certification preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS), state assessments including STAAR and TELPAS, College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) Standards, and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards.
  • Knowledge of and experience implementing high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), including Amplify Texas and Carnegie Math Texas.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning andragogy and pedagogy and their relation to technology integration.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies, including blended and personalized learning, structured academic conversations, vocabulary instruction, higher-order thinking questions, and collaborative learning.
  • Skill in analyzing and reflecting on student data to improve instructional practices.
  • Ability to design and deliver technology-enhanced learning opportunities.
  • Ability to engage others in collective inquiry and problem-solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and be flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • Enthusiasm for the use of technology in education.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of classroom teaching experience
  • Experience creating and presenting professional development at the district or campus level preferred

Instructional Coaching and Support (45-60% of Time):

  • Collaborate with teachers to design and implement technology-infused, content-based lessons that promote deeper learning.
  • Provide ongoing, job-embedded professional development and support.
  • Implement the district coaching cycle, including setting student-centered goals, providing timely feedback, and reflecting on instructional practices through classroom observations, modeling, co-teaching, and coaching conferences.
  • Lead and support faculty in the integration of digital technology through strategic outreach and informal support.
  • Promote student agency and personalized learning through effective technology integration.
  • Nurture and grow student opportunities for leadership in technology and STEM.
  • Document innovative learning strategies for ongoing assessment and publication purposes.
  • Periodically collect data on technology integration through classroom observations to inform professional learning.

 

Professional Learning and Collaboration  (20-30% of Time):

  • Design and deliver engaging professional development workshops and training sessions for individuals, small groups, and large groups.
  • Facilitate collaborative planning meetings, including lesson internalization and micro-teach guidelines.
  • Promote a strong learning culture among all stakeholders, encouraging reflection and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and support teacher leadership teams and professional learning communities.
  • Collaborate with Digital Promise staff and school/district leadership to develop and execute strategic plans.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain expertise in the field and align with VILS program goals.
  • Curate and share quality content and resources for teachers.
  • Attend all District coaching meetings and utilize information to provide campus support and align VILS program goals with district initiatives.
  • Actively pursue professional growth by attending appropriate conferences and professional learning activities.

 

Program Implementation and Data Analysis (15-20% of Time):

  • Collaborate with Digital Promise staff on weekly tracking and reporting of progress on VILS program implementation.
  • Keep district leadership and principal abreast of progress and program outcomes.
  • Monitor and review campus-level student achievement data and use findings to make recommendations regarding campus goals and instructional adjustments.
  • Contribute to the documentation of school progress and highlighting program success.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, strengths, and weaknesses in instruction and student learning.

 

Leadership and Communication (5-10% of Time):

  • Support school leaders in developing a growth-oriented school culture.
  • Build positive and effective working relationships with staff, students, and the community.
  • Communicate effectively in multiple formats (virtual, multimedia, face-to-face, etc.).
  • Utilize social media appropriately to expand the professional learning community.
  • Establish and maintain a regular meeting cycle with the Campus Principal to discuss VILS program implementation, campus technology goals, instructional needs, and to share and receive information from respective district and program meetings.
  • Promote digital equity and a strong learning culture among all project participants.
  • Demonstrate and use ethical and inclusive practices in professional development and supporting educator effectiveness.

 

School/Community Relations:

  • Interface with governmental agencies, business and civic organizations, and the community to provide needed information and to promote the District’s initiatives.

 

Other Responsibilities (5-10% of Time):

  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.
  • Support the administration of both local and state assessment programs in accordance to local, state, and federal guidelines
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by assigned Curriculum and Instruction Director in coordination and collaboration with Campus Principal.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Provide guidance and direction to assigned staff.
