JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Minimum tenth-grade education is required. High school graduate or GED preferred.
Certification or Licensure: None
Skills: Ability to perform duties assigned on the job. Understands basic food preparation and sanitation principles (desirable), Reading, and writing skills in accordance with a tenth-grade education.
Work Experience: None required. Prior food service experience preferred.
PRIMARY DUTY:
This position is responsible for producing and serving quality meals while meeting school meal requirements as needed for students in a pleasant, efficient, and sanitary manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reports for work neat and clean
- Follows work schedule as prepared by the manager
- Prepares food by reading following standardized recipes
- Operates and helps maintain (daily) all equipment in the kitchen under the direction of the manager
- Follows sanitary rules for food handling, keeps work area clean and sanitary, and does other cleaning as assigned
- Follows safety rules and regulations
- Relates effectively to children, adults, and fellow employees
- Serves food using portion control and sanitary techniques
- Participates in training sponsored by the county for School Nutrition Program personnel
- Supports professional organizations in order to promote overall growth and development of the program
- As a new employee, attends any training required by the county or state
- Lifting heavy objects, stooping, bending, standing, reaching, washing dishes, mopping floors, and operating commercial kitchen equipment for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift pans of food from a pass thru table (weight: 10 – 15 pounds) for up to 5 hours per day, and pick up cans or cases of food off of the floor and stack them onto shelves.
- Lifting heavy objects up to 40 pounds with assistance, stooping, bending, standing, and twisting for extended periods of time.
- The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee’s supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, and sit.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is in commercial kitchens with extremes in temperatures. Must be able to withstand exposure to cleaning & sanitizing chemicals and hands in water. The employee will be required to stand or walk for up to 85% of the work day.
